The microtubule-associated protein tau pathologically accumulates and aggregates in Alzheimer's disease (AD) and other tauopathies, leading to cognitive dysfunction and neuronal loss. Molecular chaperones, like small heat-shock proteins (sHsps), can help deter the accumulation of misfolded proteins, such as tau.
