RNA polymerase III (Pol III) is a large multisubunit complex conserved in all eukaryotes that plays an essential role in producing a variety of short non-coding RNAs, such as tRNA, 5S rRNA and U6 snRNA transcripts. Pol III comprises of 17 subunits in both yeast and human with a 10-subunit core and seven peripheral subunits.
