The major histocompatibility complex (MHC) spans innate and adaptive immunity by presenting antigenic peptides to CD4<sup>+</sup> and CD8<sup>+</sup> T cells. Multiple transcription factors form an enhanceosome complex on the MHC promoter and recruit transcriptional machinery to activate gene transcription.
