Flospes gen. nov. (Orthoptera, Trigonidiidae, Trigonidiinae), a genus of swordtail crickets from China, with two new species and new combinations.

ABSTRACT: We propose the genus Flospes gen. nov. for two new species, Flospesguangxiensis sp. nov. and Flospesviridipennis sp. nov., obtained from Guangxi and Hainan provinces, China, respectively, based on male genitalia traits. Three other species with similar genitalia are placed in the new genus: Flospesfujianensis (Wang et al., 1999), comb. nov., Flospeshainanensis (He et al., 2010), comb. nov., and Flospesdenticulatus (Liu & Shi, 2011), comb. nov. The new species are described, illustrated, and their ranges are given.

The yeast genus Tardiomyces gen. nov. with one new species and two new combinations.

Project description:PurposeRare yeasts species are increasingly reported as causative agents of invasive human infection. Proper identification and antifungal therapy are essential to manage these infections. Candida blankii is one of these emerging pathogens and is known for its reduced susceptibility to multiple antifungals.MethodsTo obtain more insight into the characteristics of this species, 26 isolates reported as C. blankii were investigated using genetic and phenotypical approaches.ResultsAmong the 26 isolates, seven recovered either from blood, sputum, urine, or the oral cavity, displayed substantial genetic and some phenotypical differences compared to the other isolates, which were confirmed as C. blankii. We consider these seven strains to represent a novel species, Tardiomyces depauwii. Phylogenomics assigned C. blankii, C. digboiensis, and the novel species in a distinct branch within the order Dipodascales, for which the novel genus Tardiomyces is erected. The new combinations Tardiomyces blankii and Tardiomyces digboiensis are introduced. Differences with related, strictly environmental genera Sugiyamaella, Crinitomyces, and Diddensiella are enumerated. All three Tardiomyces species share the rare ability to grow up to 42 °C, display slower growth in nutrient-poor media, and show a reduced susceptibility to azoles and echinocandins. Characteristics of T. depauwii include high MIC values with voriconazole and a unique protein pattern.ConclusionWe propose the novel yeast species Tardiomyces depauwii and the transfer of C. blankii and C. digboiensis to the novel Tardiomyces genus.

Chimena gen. nov., a new spider genus (Araneae, Mysmenidae) from China, with descriptions of two new species and a new combination.

Project description:A new mysmenid genus, Chimena gen. nov., is reported from China. Two new species: C.qiong sp. nov. (Hainan, ♂♀, the type species) and C.nantou sp. nov. (Taiwan, ♀) are illustrated and described in detail. A new combination is suggested: Chimenataiwanica (Ono, 2007) comb. nov. (Taiwan, ♂♀, transferred from Mysmena Simon, 1894). The molecular phylogeny and morphological characters were used to discuss the taxonomy and circumscription of the newly erected genus.

Hotwheels gen. nov., a new ground spider genus (Araneae, Gnaphosidae) from southwest China.

Project description:A new monotypic ground spider genus, Hotwheelsgen. nov., is described, with the type species H.sisyphussp. nov. (♂♀) from southwest China. This new genus is not assigned to any of the known subfamilies of Gnaphosidae, belonging only to the Echemus group of genera. It resembles Synaphosus Platnick & Shadab, but it can be differentiated by the presence of a median apophysis. Descriptions, illustrations and a records map are provided.

Zymoseptoria gen. nov.: a new genus to accommodate Septoria-like species occurring on graminicolous hosts.

Project description:The Mycosphaerella complex is both poly- and paraphyletic, containing several different families and genera. The genus Mycosphaerella is restricted to species with Ramularia anamorphs, while Septoria is restricted to taxa that cluster with the type species of Septoria, S. cytisi, being closely related to Cercospora in the Mycosphaerellaceae. Species that occur on graminicolous hosts represent an as yet undescribed genus, for which the name Zymoseptoria is proposed. Based on the 28S nrDNA phylogeny derived in this study, Zymoseptoria is shown to cluster apart from Septoria. Morphologically species of Zymoseptoria can also be distinguished by their yeast-like growth in culture, and the formation of different conidial types that are absent in Septoria s.str. Other than the well-known pathogens such as Z. tritici, the causal agent of septoria tritici blotch on wheat, and Z. passerinii, the causal agent of septoria speckled leaf blotch of barley, both for which epitypes are designated, two leaf blotch pathogens are also described on graminicolous hosts from Iran. Zymoseptoria brevis sp. nov. is described from Phalaris minor, and Z. halophila comb. nov. from leaves of Hordeum glaucum. Further collections are now required to elucidate the relative importance, host range and distribution of these species.

Project description:Species of the genus Prosthecomicrobium are noted for their numerous cellular appendages or prosthecae that extend from the cells. This investigation confirms that the genus is polyphyletic based on an extensive analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequences of several named species of the genus. The analyses indicate that some Prosthecomicrobium species are more closely related to non-prosthecate genera, including Devosia, Labrenzia, Blastochloris, Methylosinus, Mesorhizobium and Kaistia, than they are to other species of the genus Prosthecomicrobium. For this reason, two of the Prosthecomicrobium clades which are polyphyletic with the type species, Prosthecomicrobium pneumaticum, are renamed as new genera. The currently named species Prosthecomicrobium enhydrum, Prosthecomicrobium mishustinii, Prosthecomicrobium consociatum and Prosthecomicrobium litoralum are reclassified in two new genera, Vasilyevaea gen. nov. and Bauldia gen. nov. with four new combinations: Vasilyevaea enhydra comb. nov. (the type species) and Vasilyevaea mishustinii comb. nov., and Bauldia consociata comb. nov. and Bauldia litoralis comb. nov. (the type species). The type strain of Vasilyevaea enhydra is strain 9b(T) (=ATCC 23634(T) =VKM B-1376(T)). The type strain of the other species in this genus is Vasilyevaea mishustinii strain 17(T) (=VKM B-2499(T) =CCM 7569(T)). The type strain of Bauldia litoralis is strain 524-16(T) (= NCIB 2233(T) =ATCC 35022(T)). The type strain of the other species in this genus is Bauldia consociata strain 11(T) (=VKM B-2498(T) =CCM 7594(T)).

Project description:A new genus of the subfamily Coelotinae F. O. Pickard-Cambridge, 1893, Yunguiriusgen. nov. is described, comprising two new species and three species previously described in Draconarius Ovtchinnikov, 1999, all from southwest China: Y.duogesp. nov. (♀), Y.xiangdingsp. nov. (♀), Y.ornatus (Wang, Yin, Peng & Xie, 1990) comb. nov. (♂♀) (the type species of Yunguiriusgen. nov.), Y.subterebratus (Zhang, Zhu & Wang, 2017) comb. nov. (♀), and Y.terebratus (Peng & Wang, 1997) comb. nov. (♂♀). Molecular analyses support Yunguiriusgen. nov. as a monophyletic group, with the Sinodraconarius clade as its sister group: Yunguiriusgen. nov. + (Hengconarius + (Nuconarius + Sinodraconarius)).

Project description:Mutatus gen. nov. is described from southwest China, including four new species: M.gelao sp. nov. (♂♀, Guizhou Province), M.tianyan sp. nov. (♂♀, Hubei Province), M.tujia sp. nov. (♂♀, Hubei Province), and M.yintiaoling sp. nov. (♂, Chongqing Municipality). This new genus can be differentiated from other phrurolithid genera by the male palp which has a prolateral tegular apophysis and tegular sheet, and by a small protuberance on the female epigynal plate.
