Keratinocyte differentiation is an intricate process that is regulated by multiple mediators. Using cultured human keratinocytes, we found that lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) induced the differentiation of a previously unsuspected keratinocyte subpopulation expressing the extracellular matrix protein, thrombospondin-1 (THBS1).
