A magnetic porous organic polymer: catalytic application in the synthesis of hybrid pyridines with indole, triazole and sulfonamide moieties.

ABSTRACT: Herein, the synthesis and characterization of a triazine-based magnetic ionic porous organic polymer are reported. The structure, morphology, and components of the prepared structure have been investigated with several spectroscopic and microscopic techniques such as FT-IR, EDX, elemental mapping, TGA/DTA, SEM, TEM, VSM, and BET analysis. Also, catalytic application of the prepared triazine-based magnetic ionic porous organic polymer was investigated for the synthesis of hybrid pyridine derivatives bearing indole, triazole and sulfonamide groups. Furthermore, the prepared hybrid pyridine systems were characterized by FT-IR, ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR and mass analysis. A cooperative vinylogous anomeric-based oxidation pathway was suggested for the synthesis of target molecules.

Mixed Matrix Membranes Loaded with a Porous Organic Polymer Having Bipyridine Moieties.

Project description:Mixed matrix membranes (MMMs), derived from three aromatic polyimides (PIs), and an affordable porous organic polymer (POP) having basic bipyridine moieties were prepared. Matrimid and two fluorinated polyimides, which were derived from 4,4'-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride and 2,2'-bis(4-aminophenyl)hexafluoropropane (6F6F) or 2,4,6-trimethyl-m-phenylenediamine (6FTMPD), were employed as polymer matrixes. The used POP was a highly microporous material (surface area of 805 m2 g-1) with excellent thermal and chemical stability. The MMMs showed good compatibility between the PIs and POP, high thermal stabilities and glass transition temperatures superior to those of the neat PI membranes, and good mechanical properties. The addition of POP to the matrix led to an increase in the gas diffusivity and, thus, in permeability, which was associated with an increase in the fractional free volume of MMMs. The increase in permeability was higher for the less permeable matrix. For example, at 30 wt.% of POP, the permeability to CO2 and CH4 of the MMMs increased by 4- and 7-fold for Matrimid and 3- and 4-fold for 6FTMPD. The highest CH4 permeability led to a decrease in CO2/CH4 selectivity. The CO2/N2 separation performance was interesting, as the selectivity remained practically constant. Finally, the POP showed no molecular sieving effect towards the C2H4/C2H6 and C3H6/C3H8 gas pairs, but the permeability increased by about 4-fold and the selectivity was close to that of the matrix. In addition, because the POP can form metal ion bipyridine complexes, modified POP-based MMMs could be employed for olefin/paraffin separations.

Gas Separation by Mixed Matrix Membranes with Porous Organic Polymer Inclusions within o-Hydroxypolyamides Containing m-Terphenyl Moieties.

Project description:A hydroxypolyamide (HPA) manufactured from 2,2-bis(3-amino-4-hydroxy phenyl)-hexafluoropropane (APAF) diamine and 5'-terbutyl-m-terphenyl-4,4''-dicarboxylic acid chloride (tBTpCl), and a copolyimide produced by stochiometric copolymerization of APAF and 4,4'-(hexafluoroisopropylidene) diamine (6FpDA), using the same diacid chloride, were obtained and used as polymeric matrixes in mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) loaded with 20% (w/w) of two porous polymer networks (triptycene-isatin, PPN-1, and triptycene-trifluoroacetophenone, PPN-2). These MMMs, and also the thermally rearranged membranes (TR-MMMs) that underwent a thermal treatment process to convert the o-hydroxypolyamide moieties to polybenzoxazole ones, were characterized, and their gas separation properties evaluated for H2, N2, O2, CH4, and CO2. Both TR process and the addition of PPN increased permeability with minor decreases in selectivity for all gases tested. Excellent results were obtained, in terms of the permeability versus selectivity compromise, for H2/CH4 and H2/N2 separations with membranes approaching the 2008 Robeson's trade-off line. The best gas separation properties were obtained when PPN-2 was used. Finally, gas permeation was characterized in terms of chain intersegmental distance and fraction of free volume of the membrane along with the kinetic diameters of the permeated gases. The intersegmental distance increased after TR and/or the addition of PPN-2. Permeability followed an exponential dependence with free volume and a quadratic function of the kinetic diameter of the gas.

Anchoring Triazole-Gold(I) Complex into Porous Organic Polymer To Boost the Stability and Reactivity of Gold(I) Catalyst.

Project description:Stability and reactivity have been recognized as some critical issues for gold(I) catalysts. Such issues can be well-circumvented by anchoring the gold(I) complex onto the backbones of porous organic polymer (POP) followed by coordination with a triazole ligand as illustrated in the present work via a series of gold(I)-catalyzed reactions. In this strategy, 1,2,3-triazole was used as the special "X-factor" to avoid the formation of solid AgCl involved in typical gold-activation processes. The catalyst could be readily recycled without loss of reactivity. Moreover, compared with the PPh3-modified polystyrene beads, the POP support was advantageous by providing high surface area, hierarchical porosity, and better stabilization of cations. In some cases, significantly improved reactivity was observed, even more so than using the homogeneous system, which further highlighted the great potential of this heterogeneous gold catalyst.

Design Hybrid Porous Organic/Inorganic Polymers Containing Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxane/Pyrene/Anthracene Moieties as a High-Performance Electrode for Supercapacitor.

Project description:We synthesized two hybrid organic-inorganic porous polymers (HPP) through the Heck reaction of 9,10 dibromoanthracene (A-Br2) or 1,3,6,8-tetrabromopyrene (P-Br4)/A-Br2 as co-monomers with octavinylsilsesquioxane (OVS), in order to afford OVS-A HPP and OVS-P-A HPP, respectively. The chemical structures of these two hybrid porous polymers were validated through FTIR and solid-state 13C and 29Si NMR spectroscopy. The thermal stability and porosity of these materials were measured by TGA and N2 adsorption/desorption analyses, demonstrating that OVS-A HPP has higher thermal stability (Td10: 579 °C) and surface area (433 m2 g-1) than OVS-P-A HPP (Td10: 377 °C and 98 m2 g-1) due to its higher cross-linking density. Furthermore, the electrochemical analysis showed that OVS-P-A HPP has a higher specific capacitance (177 F g -1 at 0.5 A F g-1) when compared to OVS-A HPP (120 F g -1 at 0.5 A F g-1). The electron-rich phenyl rings and Faradaic reaction between the π-conjugated network and anthracene moiety may be attributed to their excellent electrochemical performance of OVS-P-A HPP.

Highly Efficient Organic Dyes Capture Using Thiol-Functionalized Porous Organic Polymer.

Project description:It is of great significance to develop new materials for efficient capture cationic dyes methylene blue (MB) and malachite green (MG). In this work, a novel triptycene-based porous organic polymer with abundant thiol groups (TPP-SH) was prepared successfully by postmodification with a high surface area and robust triptycene-based porous organic polymer (TPP). The obtained TPP-SH exhibited a high surface area, good porosity, and good thermal stability. In addition, TPP-SH was highly effective at capturing MB and MG from aqueous solution because of the abundant thiols in its hierarchical structure. Under optimal adsorption conditions, the maximum adsorption capacities of MB and MG calculated by the Langmuir model at room temperature were 1146.3 and 689.6 mg g-1, respectively. These values are higher than those of many reported materials. The MB and MG adsorption rates were 0.0154 and 6.69 × 10-4 mg g-1 min-1, respectively. Furthermore, the polymer TPP-SH had a good recycling performance after adsorption-desorption at least five times. Therefore, the TPP-SH exhibited a high adsorption capacity, fast adsorption kinetics, and easy-recycling behavior, providing a new avenue for the preparation of green functionalized adsorbents with good performance for water decontamination.

Fabrication of heteroatom-doped graphene-porous organic polymer hybrid materials via femtosecond laser writing and their application in VOCs sensing.

Project description:Graphene, a two-dimensional material featuring densely packed sp2-hybridized carbon atoms arranged in a honeycomb lattice, has revolutionized material science. Laser-induced graphene (LIG) represents a breakthrough method for producing graphene from both commercial and natural precursors via direct laser writing, offering advantages such as simplicity, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. This study demonstrates a novel approach to synthesize a composite material exclusively from a porous organic polymer (POP) by direct femtosecond laser writing on a compressed imide-linked porous organic polymer substrate. The formation of the LIG on the substrate was identified using X-ray diffractometry (XRD) and Raman analysis, where the variation of the 2D peaks of the LIG was obtained. The resulting heterostructure, termed LIG@NI-POP, consists of a few-layered porous and conductive graphene engraved onto the surface of microporous polyimide. X-ray Photoemission Spectroscopy (XPS) confirmed the formation of a hierarchical porous hybrid material with high nitrogen (N) and oxygen (O) self-doping in the graphene. Leveraging its porosity, surface and bulk chemistry, and electrical properties, LIG@NI-POP was tested for sensing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) as a proof-of-concept application. The composite material exhibited dual functionality as a sensor and adsorbent for VOCs, demonstrating significant sensitivity and selectivity towards acetone over ethanol due to enhanced intermolecular interactions. This approach broadens the scope of laser direct writing to include various porous polymers, facilitating the fabrication of hybrid materials that integrate the unique properties of both graphene and porous polymers, thereby enhancing their potential applications in areas that leverage these synergistic properties.

Construction of a (NNN)Ru-Incorporated Porous Organic Polymer with High Catalytic Activity for β-Alkylation of Secondary Alcohols with Primary Alcohols.

Project description:Solid supports functionalized with molecular metal catalysts combine many of the advantages of heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis. A (NNN)Ru-incorporated porous organic polymer (POP-bp/bbpRuCl3) exhibited high catalytic efficiency and broad functional group tolerance in the C-C cross-coupling of secondary and primary alcohols to give β-alkylated secondary alcohols. This catalyst demonstrated excellent durability during successive recycling without leaching of Ru which is ascribed to the strong binding of the pincer ligands to the metal ions.

Advances in Organic and Organic-Inorganic Hybrid Polymeric Supports for Catalytic Applications.

Project description:In this review, the most recent advances (2014-2016) on the synthesis of new polymer-supported catalysts are reported, focusing the attention on the synthetic strategies developed for their preparation. The polymer-supported catalysts examined will be organic-based polymers and organic-inorganic hybrids and will include, among others, polystyrenes, poly-ionic liquids, chiral ionic polymers, dendrimers, carbon nanotubes, as well as silica and halloysite-based catalysts. Selected examples will show the synthesis and application in the field of organocatalysis and metal-based catalysis both for non-asymmetric and asymmetric transformations.

Transport of polymer-coated metal-organic framework nanoparticles in porous media.

Project description:Injecting fluids into deep underground geologic structures is a critical component to development of long-term strategies for managing greenhouse gas emissions and facilitating energy extraction operations. Recently, we reported that metal-organic frameworks are low-frequency, absorptive-acoustic metamaterial that may be injected into the subsurface to enhance geophysical monitoring tools used to track fluids and map complex structures. A key requirement for this nanotechnology deployment is transportability through porous geologic media without being retained by mineral-fluid interfaces. We used flow-through column studies to estimate transport and retention properties of five different polymer-coated MIL-101(Cr) nanoparticles (NP) in siliceous porous media. When negatively charged polystyrene sulfonate coated nanoparticles (NP-PSS-70K) were transported in 1 M NaCl, only about 8.4% of nanoparticles were retained in the column. Nanoparticles coated with polyethylenimine (NP-PD1) exhibited significant retention (> 50%), emphasizing the importance of complex nanoparticle-fluid-rock interactions for successful use of nanofluid technologies in the subsurface. Nanoparticle transport experiments revealed that nanoparticle surface characteristics play a critical role in nanoparticle colloidal stability and as well the transport.

Nickel-metalated porous organic polymer for Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction.

Project description:A new Ni(ii)-α-diimine-based porous organic polymer, namely Ni(ii)-α-diimine-POP, was constructed in high yield via the Sonogashira coupling reaction between the metallo-building block of Ni(ii)-α-diimine and 1,3,5-triethynylbenzene. Besides the high thermal and chemical stability, the obtained Ni(ii)-α-diimine-POP can be a highly active reusable heterogeneous catalyst to promote the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction. The obtained results indicate that the Ni(ii)-α-diimine-POP herein is a promising sustainable alternative to the Pd-based catalysts for catalysing the C-C formation in a heterogeneous way.
