Vertebrates use the mannose 6-phosphate (M6P)-recognition system to deliver lysosomal hydrolases to lysosomes. Key to this pathway is N-acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc)-1-phosphotransferase (PTase) that selectively adds GlcNAc-phosphate (P) to mannose residues of hydrolases.
