Oligodendrocytes (OLs) form myelin sheaths and provide metabolic support to axons in the CNS. Although most OLs develop during early postnatal life, OL generation continues in adulthood, and this late oligodendrogenesis may contribute to neuronal network plasticity in the adult brain.
