Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) is an arbovirus transmitted to humans mainly by the bite of infected <i>Aedes aegypti</i> and <i>Aedes albopictus</i> mosquitoes. CHIKV illness is characterized by fever and long-lasting arthritic symptoms, and in some cases it is a deadly disease.
