Tin (Sn) has a low melting temperature, <i>i.e.</i>, 231.9 °C for the bulk, and the capability to form compounds with many metals. The galvanic reaction between Sn nanoparticles (NPs) as the core and silver nitrate at room temperature under argon gas in an organic solvent without any reducing power, was employed for the first time to coat an Ag-Sn intermetallic shell, <i>i.e.</i>, Ag3Sn and/or Ag4Sn, on Sn NPs. For spherical Sn NPs, the NPs retained a spherical shape after ...[more]
