Translation, cross-cultural adaptation and validation of the Computer Vision Syndrome Questionnaire into Persian (CVS-Q FA^©).

ABSTRACT:

Purpose

To translate, cross-culturally adapt and validate the Computer Vision Syndrome Questionnaire (CVS-Q^©) into Persian.

Methods

This study was carried out in 2 phases: (1) the CVS-Q^© was translated and cross-culturally adapted into Persian and (2) the validity and reliability of CVS-Q FA^© were assessed in a cross-sectional validation study. An expert committee composed of 15 optometrists evaluated content validity (item-level (I-CVI) and scale-level (S-CVI) content validity index were calculated). A pretest was performed (n = 20 participants) to verify the comprehensibility of the questionnaire. A total of 102 computer users completed the final questionnaire. Criterion validity and diagnostic performance of the CVS-Q FA^© were assessed by calculating sensitivity, specificity and receiver characteristic operator curve. Cronbach's alpha was calculated for the assessment of internal consistency and 46 participants refilled the questionnaire for the second time and the interclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Cohen's kappa (κ) were evaluated for test-retest reliability.

Results

The translation and cross-cultural adaptation process was performed successfully according to accepted scientific recommendations without any major difficulties. The I-CVI was above 0.80 for all items (symptoms) except item 15 (feeling that sight is worsening) and the S-CVI was 0.92. The CVS-Q FA^© showed good sensitivity (81.1%) and acceptable specificity (69.2%). Also, it achieved good internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.80) and test-retest reliability (ICC = 0.81 and κ = 0.65).

Conclusion

The CVS-Q FA^© was successfully translated, cross-culturally adapted, and validated into Persian. This study provides a valid and reliable tool for the assessment of computer vision syndrome among the Iranian working population.

Project description:BackgroundThis study appraises the psychometrics properties of the Inflammatory bowel disease-fatigue (IBD-F) Persian version questionnaire.MethodsThe original IBD-F questionnaire was translated into the Persian version in a standard forward-back manner. The validation was performed through the face, content, and construct validity. Fifteen experts scored each item's necessity on an ordinal Likert scale of three; then, the content validity ratio was calculated using the Lawshe formula. Eight judges from pre-defined panel rated each item on an ordinal 4-point Likert scale concerning its relevancy, clarity, and simplicity for individual-CVI calculation. The mean individual-CVI was considered as the Scale-CVI for each domain. Twenty lay experts (selected from the target population) were asked to express their opinion on each item's importance by scoring on a 5-point Likert scale; subsequently, face validity was determined by the impact score formula. The questions that had minimum values of CVR, CVI, and impact score were retained in the final version of the questionnaire for reliability evaluation. Construct validity was evaluated via Confirmatory Factor Analysis. Internal consistency and test-retest reliability were checked using Cronbach's α and intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC). Fifty-four patients recruited based on inclusion and exclusion criteria to participate in the reliability analysis.ResultsAll the questions received the qualified values of CVR (exceeding 0.49 points) and impact score (more than 1.5 points) and were retained in the questionnaire; however, revisions were made for questions with a CVI 0.7-0.9 for clarity and simplicity. The result demonstrated relative goodness CFA and proper internal consistency, as Cronbach's α coefficient was 0.964 for the test (0.845 and 0.963 for the first and second part of the questionnaire, respectively (and 0.888 for the re-test (0.793 and 0.876 for the first and second section of the questionnaire, respectively). The ICC values between test and re-test for the first and second part and the whole questionnaire were obtained as 0.904, 0.922, and 0.921, respectively.ConclusionThe Persian version of the IBD-F questionnaire was valid and reliable; thus, an appropriate scale was deemed to measure fatigue (severity, frequency, and impact on daily activities).

Project description:BackgroundApproximately 110 million Farsi speakers worldwide have access to a growing mobile app market. Despite restrictions and international sanctions, Iran's internal mobile health app market is growing, especially for Android-based apps. However, there is a need for guidelines for developing health apps that meet international quality standards. There are also no tools in Farsi that assess health app quality. Developers and researchers who operate in Farsi could benefit from such quality assessment tools to improve their outputs.ObjectiveThis study aims to translate and culturally adapt the Mobile Application Rating Scale in Farsi (MARS-Fa). This study also evaluates the validity and reliability of the newly developed MARS-Fa tool.MethodsWe used a well-established method to translate and back translate the MARS-Fa tool with a group of Iranian and international experts in Health Information Technology and Psychology. The final translated version of the tool was tested on a sample of 92 apps addressing smartphone addiction. Two trained reviewers completed an independent assessment of each app in Farsi and English. We reported reliability and construct validity estimates for the objective scales (engagement, functionality, aesthetics, and information quality). Reliability was based on the evaluation of intraclass correlation coefficients, Cronbach α and Spearman-Brown split-half reliability indicators (for internal consistency), as well as Pearson correlations for test-retest reliability. Construct validity included convergent and discriminant validity (through item-total correlations within the objective scales) and concurrent validity using Pearson correlations between the objective and subjective scores.ResultsAfter completing the translation and cultural adaptation, the MARS-Fa tool was used to assess the selected apps for smartphone addiction. The MARS-Fa total scale showed good interrater reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient=0.83, 95% CI 0.74-0.89) and good internal consistency (Cronbach α=.84); Spearman-Brown split-half reliability for both raters was 0.79 to 0.93. The instrument showed excellent test-retest reliability (r=0.94). The correlations among the MARS-Fa subdomains and the total score were all significant and above r=0.40, suggesting good convergent and discriminant validity. The MARS-Fa was positively and significantly correlated with subjective quality (r=0.90, P<.001), and so were the objective subdomains of engagement (r=0.85, P<.001), information quality (r=0.80, P<.001), aesthetics (r=0.79, P<.001), and functionality (r=0.57, P<.001), indicating concurrent validity.ConclusionsThe MARS-Fa is a reliable and valid instrument to assess mobile health apps. This instrument could be adopted by Farsi-speaking researchers and developers who want to evaluate the quality of mobile apps. While we tested the tool with a sample of apps addressing smartphone addiction, the MARS-Fa could assess other domains or issues since the Mobile App Rating Scale has been used to rate apps in different contexts and languages.

Project description:Abstract Background Peyronie’s disease has an impact on men’s mental and physical health. Aim We sought to translate the Peyronie’s Disease Questionnaire into Danish, adapt it to the Danish cultural setting, and test it in a Danish population. Methods Translation of the Peyronie’s Disease Questionnaire was performed according to the guidelines for adapting health status measures for use in languages other than the source language by Beaton et al. The validated American Peyronie’s Disease Questionnaire was developed to monitor patient symptoms after an intervention and to inspire a subsequent dialogue about physical and psychological symptoms with a healthcare provider, thereby allowing the patient and the healthcare professional to choose the best treatment. The expert committee agreed on a Danish version after cross-cultural adaptation. The Danish Peyronie’s Disease Questionnaire was sent by electronic mail to a preselected group of 41 men with Peyronie’s disease. Outcomes After completing the questionnaire, 32 men participated in a video interview regarding the questionnaire and were asked to identify any problematic fields or areas open to misunderstanding. Results The Peyronie’s Disease Questionnaire underwent major modifications in light of the comments of the first 10 respondents. Thereafter, only minor changes were made until data saturation was reached after 27 of the 32 respondents had been interviewed. In 87% of respondents Peyronie’s disease bothered from the last time they had intercourse, and 93% of the men experienced being bothered by having intercourse less often. Peyronie’s disease made 73% of respondents feel bodily discomfort, and 88% had intercourse less often than they used to have due to Peyronie’s disease. Clinical Implications The Peyronie’s Disease Questionnaire is a valuable tool in the crucial task of addressing Peyronie’s disease, providing insight into the mental and sexual health problems as well as physical challenges faced by patients. Strengths and Limitations The interviewer’s modest experience in conducting interviews is believed to have been duly compensated for by continuous and accumulating learning-while-doing process because the same interviewer conducted all of the interviews and did so consecutively. Conclusions Danish men expressed satisfaction with the questionnaire and found it valuable as a tool when visiting the doctor for the first time.
