The superantigen staphylococcal enterotoxin C (SEC) is critical for <i>Staphylococcus aureus</i> infective endocarditis (SAIE) in rabbits. Superantigenicity, its hallmark function, was proposed to be a major underlying mechanism driving SAIE but was not directly tested.
