<i>Wolbachia</i> is an endosymbiotic bacterium that can restrict the transmission of human pathogenic viruses by <i>Aedes aegypti</i> mosquitoes. Recent field trials have shown that dengue incidence is significantly reduced when <i>Wolbachia</i> is introgressed into the local <i>Ae. aegypti</i> population.
