Snapping Sartorius tendon due to a medial knee ganglion: an unusual cause of medial knee pain.

ABSTRACT: Snapping of knee could be due to plethora of causes. We describe a case of snapping of Sartorius over a medial knee ganglion that was treated successfully by ultrasound guided aspiration with complete resolution of symptoms.

Snapping Knee Syndrome of the Sartorius Accompanying Osteoarthritis Cured by Osteophyte Removal During Total Knee Arthroplasty.

Project description:Snapping knee syndrome on the medial side is rare. Here, we report the case of a patient with snapping knee syndrome of the sartorius with knee osteoarthritis. A large osteophyte at the posteromedial femoral condyle impinged on the sartorius myotendinous junction, causing painless snapping. The patient was successfully treated with osteophyte removal and total knee arthroplasty while preserving the tendon. Hence, tendon release or resection to treat snapping syndrome is not always necessary if the underlying cause can be eliminated. Furthermore, we found that while tendon tension is important for the occurrence of snapping syndrome, the impingement site determines the occurrence of snapping pain.

Snapping knee caused by medial meniscal cyst.

Project description:Snapping phenomenon around the medial aspect of the knee is rare. We present this case of snapping knee caused by the sartorius muscle over a large medial meniscal cyst in a 66-year-old female. Magnetic resonance images demonstrated a large medial meniscal cyst with a horizontal tear of the medial meniscus. Arthroscopic cyst decompression with limited meniscectomy resulted in the disappearance of snapping, and no recurrence of the cyst was observed during a 2-year follow-up period.

Project description:In this surgical technique article, the authors describe a percutaneous tendon lengthening technique for surgical treatment of a regenerated semitendinosus tendon in snapping syndrome. Snapping syndromes are caused by 2 adjacent anatomic structures having a frictional catching, which may be associated with an audible pop. At the knee, they may have an intra- or extra-articular origin. It is imperative to understand the etiology of the snapping phenomenon to avoid unnecessary surgery.

Snapping Knee Caused by a Superiorly Displaced Medial Meniscus: Knee Dynamic Ultrasonographic Findings.

Project description:The causes of snapping knee include meniscal instability, but dynamic ultrasonographic findings have rarely been reported. Here, we report a case of snapping knee due to direct trauma to the right knee of a 79-year-old woman. Dynamic ultrasonography is used to confirm the snapping phenomenon caused by the anterosuperior displacement of the truncated posterior horn and body of the right medial meniscus.

Hydroxyapatite deposition disease (HADD) of the spring ligament: an unusual cause of medial foot pain.

Project description:Foot pain is one of the most common presenting complaints in orthopaedic clinical practice and can be attributed to a multitude of pathologies in the various osseous structures, ligaments, and tendons of the foot. The spring ligament complex (SLC) between the calcaneum and navicular supports the talus and plays a major role in the static stability of the medial longitudinal arch of the foot. Although calcific ligamentous enthesopathy around the ankle has been described in the literature, we report the first case of its kind affecting the SLC in a 51-year-old male with medial foot pain and no history of trauma. We highlight the role of radiological interventions in the diagnosis and effective management using ultrasound (US)-guided barbotage.

Biceps Femoris Tendon Subluxation Snapping Knee, Treated by a Modified Kennedy Procedure: A Case Report.

Project description:IntroductionSnapping biceps femoris tendon over the fibular head is an uncommon cause of snapping knee. We report a rare case of knee pain secondary to subluxation of the long head of the biceps femoris over the fibular head in an athlete with no history of trauma. This case was treated surgically by a modification of Kennedy procedure.Case reportA 21-year-old Lebanese athletic male presented for a nauseating feeling of something snapping over his lateral knee since the age of 12 when performing self-defense sports with no history of trauma. Snapping begins when the patient flexes above 80° during squatting, cycling, gym exercises, and climbing stairs.ConclusionA symptomatic snapping biceps femoris tendon is a rare phenomenon with limited reports in the literature. When conservative treatment fails, surgery may be the only successful treatment. A modification of the Kennedy procedure was used. Rerouting of the subluxating superior aspect of the tendon without further dissection and release appears to be an effective treatment that can result in symptom resolution as long as no anatomic variants are present.

A symptomatic cyamella in the popliteus tendon causing snapping knee: a case report and literature review.

Project description:BACKGROUND:Cyamella,the sesamoid bones of the popliteus muscle, are rare in humans. Snapping knee is an uncommon problem which can be difficult to diagnose. CASE PRESENTATION:In this case, we report a 24-year-old male with snapping knee caused by symptomatic cyamella in the popliteus tendon. A large cyamella was identified upon surgery and was removed. Postoperatively, the patient had immediate relief of preoperative symptoms, and there were no signs of recurrence after 1 years of follow-up. CONCLUSIONS:Although not previously suggested, symptomatic cyamella in the popliteus tendon should be considered as part of the differential diagnosis of the snapping knee.

Unusual Sign from an Unusual Cause: Wellens' Syndrome due to Myocardial Bridging.

Project description:It is vital to recognize correctly, chest pain of cardiac etiology. Most commonly, it is because of blood supply-demand inequity in the myocardium. However, the phenomenon of myocardial bridging as a cause of cardiac chest pain has come to attention reasonably recently. Herein, a coronary artery with a normal epicardial orientation develops a transient myocardial course. If the cardiac muscle burden is substantial, the respective artery gets compressed during each cycle of systole, thereby impeding blood flow in the artery. Hence, myocardial bridging has been attributed to as a rare cause of angina. In this case report, the authors discuss a patient in whom myocardial bridging turned out to be an elusive cause of angina. We wish to underscore the importance of being clinically mindful of myocardial bridging when assessing a patient with angina.

Surgical Repair of Dynamic Snapping Biceps Femoris Tendon.

Project description:A snapping biceps tendon is an infrequently seen and commonly misdiagnosed pathology, leaving patients with persistent symptoms that can be debilitating. Patients will present with a visible, audible, and/or painful snap over the lateral aspect of their knee when performing squats, sitting in low seats, or participating in activities with deep knee flexion. A thorough knowledge of the anatomy is essential for surgical treatment of this pathology, which is caused by a detachment of the direct arms of the long and short heads of the biceps femoris off the fibular styloid. This Technical Note provides a diagnostic approach, postoperative management, and details of a surgical technique to treat a snapping biceps tendon with an anatomic repair of the long and short head attachments of the biceps femoris to the posterolateral fibular styloid.
