Characterization of the complete mitochondrial genome of Loxocephala perpunctata (Hemiptera: Eurybrachidae).

ABSTRACT: In this study, we sequenced and annotated the complete mitochondrial genome of Loxocephala perpunctata (Jacobi, 1944) (Hemiptera: Eurybrachidae). The mitogenome of L. perpunctata is 15,017 bp long and includes 37 genes and a large control region. Consisting of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes, and a D-loop. All protein-coding genes have the usual ATN start codons, except for ND5, which uses the noncanonical codon GTG. 22 tRNAs, the length ranging from 59 to 69 bp, having the clover-leaf structure except for the dihydrouridine (DHU) arm of trnS2 forming a simple loop.

The mitogenome was 16,708 bp in length, containing 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes and a control region. All PCGs started with ATN, except for atp6 and nad5, which used noncanonical codon GTG, respectively. All tRNAs could fold into typical clover-leaf secondary structures, with the exception of two trnS genes, lacking the dihydrouridine (DHU) stem.

Characterization of the complete mitochondrial genome of Inara alboguttata (Hemiptera: Reduviidae).

Project description:In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of the assassin bug Inara alboguttata, is determined using next-generation sequencing. The mitogenome is a typical circular DNA molecule of 15,436 bp long with a high AT bias (72.3%), containing 13 protein-coding genes, two rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes and a control region. Protein-coding genes all initiate with ATN codons and most of them terminate with TAA or TAG codons, whereas COI, ND3, and ND5 use a single T residue. The lrRNA and srRNA genes are 1247 bp and 766 bp in length, respectively. All tRNA genes have the cloverleaf secondary structure except for the tRNASer(AGN). The control region is 860 bp long with an A + T content of 68.2%. Phylogenetic result supports the sister relationship between I. alboguttata and Acanthaspis ruficeps.

Characterization of the complete mitochondrial genome of Pentatoma semiannulata (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae).

Project description:The Pentatoma semiannulata is an important fruit pest in Chinese agricultural system. In current study, the complete mitochondrial genome of P. semiannulata is determined. This mitogenome is 15,515 bp in size and comprises of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, and a control region. Gene order is identical to that of the putative ancestral arrangement of insects. All protein-coding genes initiate with ATN, except for ATP8, COX1 and NAD1 use GTG or TTG as the start codon, and terminate with TAA with the exception for COX2 which uses a single T residue as the stop codon. All tRNAs, ranging from 62 to 72 bp, have the clover-leaf structure except for tRNASer(AGN) . The monophyly of Pentatomidae is highly supported by the phylogenetic tree and P. semiannulata is very close to other herbivorous species of the remaining Pentatomidae species.

Project description:The complete mitogenome of Mitjaevia protuberanta (GenBank accession number MN627216) is 14,032 bp (AT: 77.43%) in length, including 13 protein-coding, 22 transfer RNAs, and 2 ribosomal RNAs. All protein-coding genes used ATN as initiation codon except ND5 that used TTG as initiation codon, and TAA, TAG, and T were termination codons. We constructed a phylogenetic tree from 14 species (Hemiptera) based on the nucleotide sequence of 13 mitochondrial protein-coding genes. The phylogenetic analysis results showed that mitochondrial genome of M. protuberanta had the same characteristics as other Cicadellidae species.

The Complete Mitochondrial Genome of Ugyops sp. (Hemiptera: Delphacidae).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of Ugyops sp. (Hemiptera: Delphacidae) was sequenced, making it the first determined mitogenome from the subfamily Asiracinae, the basal clade of the family Delphacidae. The mitogenome was 15,259 bp in length with A + T content of 77.65% and contained 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs), two ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs), and a control region. The gene order was identical with that of the ancestral insect. The nucleotide composition analysis indicated that the whole mitogenome was strongly A-skewed (0.288) and highly C-skewed (-0.270). For PCGs on the J-strand, the AT skew was positive, and the GC skew was negative. All PCGs started with canonical ATN codons, except for cox1 and nad5, which used CTG and GTG as start codon, respectively. All tRNAs could fold into typical cloverleaf secondary structures, with the exception of trnS1 (AGN), in which the dihydrouridine arm was reduced to a simple loop. The control region included a poly-T stretch downstream of the small rRNA gene (rrnS), a subregion of higher A + T content and tandemly repeated sequence near trnI. The mitogenome of Ugyops sp. could be very helpful in exploring the diversity and evolution of mitogenomes in Delphacidae.

Gene arrangement is identical to that of the putative ancestral arrangement of insects. All protein-coding genes initiate with ATN codons and terminate with TAA codons except for COII, ND4, and ND5 use TA or a single T residue as the termination codons. All tRNAs have the clover-leaf structure except for the tRNASer(AGN) and the length of them range from 62 to 70 bp. The phylogenetic result supports the monophyly of Harpactorinae and the sister relationship between R. fuscipes and Rhynocoris incertis.

Characterization of the complete mitochondrial genome and phylogenetic implications for Eurydema maracandica (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of Eurydema maracandica was sequenced and was 15,391 bp long with 76.82% A + T. There were 37 typical genes including 13 protein-coding genes/PCGs, 22 transfer RNA/tRNAs, and 2 ribosomal RNA/rRNAs. The 690 bp D-loop region was located between 12S rRNA and trnI-Ile. All PCGs started with ATN codons, except COI, ATP8, and ND1, and ended with TAA, except COI, COII, and ND5. Phylogenetic analyses indicated highly supported monophyly for each family, and Pentatomidae species formed a solid monophyletic group. Eurydema maracandica and Eurydema gebleri were clustered sibling clades, and the genus Halyomorpha was close to Eurydema.

Characterization and phylogenetic analysis of the complete mitochondrial genome of Aphis spiraecola (Hemiptera: Aphididae).

Project description:Aphis spiraecola is an important pest of citrus and transmits a number of plant viruses. Here, we sequenced and annotated the complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of A. spiraecola. This mitogenome was 15,465 bp long and encoded 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs), and 2 ribosomal RNA unit genes (rRNAs). Gene order was conserved and identical to that of Drosophila yakuba and to most other previously sequenced Aphididae. The whole mitogenome exhibited heavy AT nucleotide bias (81.8%). All 13 PCGs were initiated by the ATN (ATG, ATT and ATA) codon. Except for cox1 and nad4 which end with the incomplete codon T-, all PCGs terminated with the stop codon TAA. Phylogenetic analysis showed that A. spiraecola got together with the same genus species Aphis gossypii and Aphis craccivora with high support value, and Aphis had a close relationship with Schizaphis and Rhopalosiphum.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Liorhyssus hyalinus (Hemiptera: Rhopalidae).

Project description:The mitogenome of Liorhyssus hyalinus (Fabricius, 1794), decoded using next-generation sequencing, is the first report of Liorhyssus. The mitogenomic size was 16,355 bp with 41.99% A, 33.44% T, 14.53% C, and 10.05% G (OM328158). The phylogenetic tree, constructed with the amino acid sequences of 13 protein-coding genes, showed that L. hyalinus clustered together with other species in Rhopalidae, which supported the monophyly of each family in Pentatomomorpha.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Idioscopus nitidulus (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae).

It comprises 15,287 base pairs (bp), including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes and a control region. The phylogenetic analyses based on concatenated thirteen protein-coding genes of mitogenomes recover the monophyly of Auchenorrhyncha (Fulgoromorpha + Cicadomorpha) and Sternorrhyncha as a sister group to Auchenorrhyncha. The complete mitogenome sequence of Idioscopus nitidulusis available in the GenBank with accession number: KR024406.
