Next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics analyses have clearly revealed the roles of mitochondrial ribosomal genes in cancer development. Mitochondrial ribosomes are composed of three RNA components encoded by mitochondrial DNA and 82 specific protein components encoded by nuclear DNA.
