Promoting teaching innovation of Chinese public-school teachers by team temporal leadership: The mediation of job autonomy and the moderation of work stress.

ABSTRACT: This study examines the impact of team temporal leadership, leaders' behaviors regarding scheduling, allocating time resources, and coordinating team members, on teachers' innovative behavior. Questionnaire surveys on 2021 Chinese elementary and secondary public-school teachers show that team temporal leadership exerts a significant positive direct effect on teaching innovation and the effect can be facilitated through the mediation of job autonomy. Moreover, both the direct effect and the second-leg of the mediation effect are moderated by work stress. These suggest that, at least in certain educational settings, teaching innovation can benefit from leaders' appropriate scheduling and synchronization of time resources. The results also emphasizing the roles of job autonomy and work stress during this time-based team management.

Chinese University EFL Teachers' Perceived Support, Innovation, and Teaching Satisfaction in Online Teaching Environments: The Mediation of Teaching Efficacy.

Project description:This study investigated the relationships between university EFL teachers' perceived teaching support, teacher innovation, and teaching satisfaction in online teaching environments, especially the mediating role of teaching efficacy. The results of an online questionnaire survey with 473 university EFL teachers revealed that although online peer support did not directly make any difference to teacher innovation and teaching satisfaction, greater perceived support in the form of teaching resources and teaching autonomy improved university EFL teachers' online teaching satisfaction. Online teaching efficacy significantly mediated the relationships between teaching support and teacher innovation and satisfaction. The results offer significant implications for improving the effectiveness of EFL teaching and promoting university EFL teachers' innovation and satisfaction in online teaching environments.

Impact of despotic leadership and workplace incivility on innovative work behavior of employees: Application of mediation-moderation model.

Project description:Innovative Work Behavior (IWB) of employees is one of the essential requirements for organizations to excel in competition in today's dynamic world. Nowadays, organizations can keep the current pace through competitive advantage. But to acquire competitive advantage, employees must be creative and innovative in their work-related behaviors. Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Pakistan are suffering several challenges in this regard. Therefore, current study is designed to examine the role of negative events and negative leadership on the IWB of the employees with mediating role of Psychological Well-being (PsyWB). Further, the moderating role of Perceived Organizational Support (POS) has also been tested. The negative event used in current research is Workplace Incivility (WPI) and Despotic Leadership (DL) from the negative leadership styles examined. Results of the current study showed that the presence of WPI and DL in organizations damage the IWB of employees as they harm the PsyWB of employees. We find that PsyWB mediated the relationship among DL, WPI, and IWB. POS is helpful for employees to overcome the negative issues prevailing in the organizations. The SMEs need to construct policies to eradicate WPI and must discourage despotic personalities to make the environment favorable for employees to protect their IWB. There must be some events that can increase the positive PsyWB of employees to make them more creative and motivated. Likewise, POS must be at sufficient level so that employees feel safe and healthy in all respects.

The Effects of Leadership and Job Autonomy on Vitality: Survey and Experimental Evidence.

Project description:Vitality refers to the experience of having energy available to one's self. Vital employees are full of positive energy when they work, and feel mentally and physically strong. Such employees often show higher job performance and lower stress than their less vital colleagues. Despite the importance of vitality, few public administration studies have studied vitality. More generally, by focusing on vitality, we aim to bring a "positive psychology" perspective into the domain of public administration. We analyze whether two important job characteristics (leader's task communication and job autonomy) affect vitality. We use a multi-method design. A large-scale survey (N = 1,502) shows that leader's task communication and job autonomy are positively related to vitality. A lab experiment (N = 102) replicated these findings, showing cause-and-effect relationships. In conclusion, public organizations can potentially increase employee vitality (a) by increased task communication from leaders and (b) by providing employees with greater job autonomy.

Transformational Leadership and Project Success: Serial Mediation of Team-Building and Teamwork.

Project description:This research investigates the impact of transformational leadership (TL) style on project success (PS) in the indirect effect of serial mediation of team-building and teamwork quality (TWQ). A quantitative research approach was used for this study. Data were gathered from 374 professional information system development (ISD) project managers in Pakistan. The hypotheses were tested using regression analysis with bootstrapping. Both team-building and teamwork independently and serially mediate the relationship between the TL and PS of the project managers, respectively. The TL style of the project manager intensifies PS with team-building practices (TBP) and TWQ. The TL boosts TWQ in terms of communication, coordination, and cohesion to achieve a successful project. The findings suggest that TL is associated with PS through serial mediation of team-building and teamwork. No research to date has used this nascent methodology to explore the association between TL and PS.

Meaningful work and resilience among teachers: The mediating role of work engagement and job crafting.

Project description:Research in the field of work and organizational psychology more and more highlights the importance of employees' experience of meaningful work. Adding to this area of research, the present study among teachers examined the relationship between meaningful work and resilience and tested whether this proposed relationship is mediated by teachers' work engagement and job crafting behaviour. Data for this study was collected among a group of Dutch teachers working in a school for primary education (N = 174). To test the hypothesized relationships, we conducted a bootstrapping analysis. The outcomes revealed that work engagement and job crafting fully mediated the relationship between meaningful work and teacher's resilience. The insights provided in this study may be useful for the deliberate cultivation of teachers' resilience and may help them to stay enthusiastic in their meaningful but demanding profession. Theoretical contributions, limitations, suggestions for future research and practical implications are discussed.

The relationship between servant leadership and team innovation performance: Mediating effect of self-efficacy.

Project description:This study delves into the effects of servant leadership on team innovation performance by examining innovation self-efficacy as a mediating factor and team innovation atmosphere as a moderating factor. Utilizing a questionnaire survey of 311 hotel employees, we employed a structural equation model for rigorous data analysis. Our key findings are summarized as follows: (1) Servant leadership positively influences team innovation performance. Specifically, the dimensions of persuasion and guidance within servant leadership emerge as significant predictors of enhanced team innovation. (2) Servant leadership significantly boosts innovation self-efficacy, highlighting its crucial role in fostering a culture of innovation. (3) Innovation self-efficacy emerges as a pivotal mediator between servant leadership and team innovation performance, underscoring its importance in translating leadership behaviours into tangible innovation outcomes. (4) The team innovation atmosphere positively moderates the relationship between innovation self-efficacy and team innovation performance, indicating that a supportive environment can amplify the impact of individuals' self-beliefs on collective innovation. This research offers valuable theoretical and practical insights into harnessing the power of servant leadership to enhance innovation self-efficacy and, ultimately, team innovation performance. Our findings contribute to a richer understanding of how these variables interact and can inform the development of more effective leadership strategies in organizations seeking to foster a culture of innovation.

The Impact of Transformational Leadership on Employee Retention: Mediation and Moderation Through Organizational Citizenship Behavior and Communication.

Project description:This study investigates the impact of transformational leadership on employee retention in small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and probes the mediating role of organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) and the moderating role of communication. Data were collected using convenience sampling from 505 employees of SMEs. A Smart PLS structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to estimate the various relationships. The findings of the study reveal a positive and significant relationship between transformational leadership and OCB. Similarly, this study finds a positive and significant relationship in OCB and employee retention. In addition, OCB had a positive mediating effect on the relationship between transformational leadership and employee retention. Furthermore, communication positively moderates the transformational leadership- OCB and OCB-employee retention relationships. Leaders at SMEs should implement the traits of transformational leadership such as developing a compelling vision for employees, focusing on goal achievement, having problem-solving techniques, having a sense of purpose, and spending time on the training and development of the team to enhance OCB and employee retention.

Humble Leadership and Team Innovation: The Mediating Role of Team Reflexivity and the Moderating Role of Expertise Diversity in Teams.

Project description:The current study proposes a moderated mediation model to explain the relationship between humble leadership and team innovation. Our hypothesis integrates social information processing (SIP) theory with the existing literature on humble leadership. As a result, we theorize that when a humble individual leads a team, the team members are more likely to reconsider strategies, review events with self-awareness, share diverse information, and adapt to new ideas, which in turn promotes innovative team activities. Moreover, consistent with the research that emphasizes the inclusion of team culture in exploring leader-innovation relationships, we investigate the moderating role of a team's expertise diversity in the above positive, indirect relationship. We test our model by using both archival and survey data collected from 135 teams within 18 medium-to-large internet technology firms in China. The findings largely support our theoretical assertions, suggesting that humble leadership has important implications for team processes and innovation.

The impact of job-related stress on township teachers' professional well-being: A moderated mediation analysis.

Project description:This study aimed to explore the relationship between job-related stress and township teachers' professional well-being. Based on Job Demand-Resource Model, this study examined the mediating role of teachers' professional identity and the moderating role of perceived organizational support in this relationship. A total of 24,276 township teachers in China responded to the Teacher Stress Scale, the Teachers' Professional Identity Scale, the Teachers' Professional Well-Being Structure Questionnaire, and the Perceived Organizational Support Scale. Results showed that: (1) the professional well-being of township teachers differed significantly in terms of school type and demographic characteristics like age and gender; (2) job-related stress negatively predicted township teachers' professional well-being, with teachers' professional identity playing a mediating role; (3) the relation between job-related stress and teachers' professional identity was moderated by perceived organizational support; and (4) in the moderated mediation analysis, job-related stress positively predicted township teachers' professional well-being. These findings indicated that township teachers' professional well-being was influenced by both organizational and individual factors, which provided a theoretical basis and intervention pathways for improving township teachers' professional well-being.

Teachers' Personal and Collective Work-Identity Predicts Exhaustion and Work Motivation: Mediating Roles of Psychological Job Demands and Resources.

Project description:The aim of this study was to investigate the mediating roles of teachers' psychological job demands and resources regarding personal and collective work-identity, respectively, and exhaustion and self-determined work motivation, respectively. A total of 2,905 members of a Swedish teacher's trade union received an online questionnaire by e-mail; 768 individuals answered the questionnaire and so participated in this study. The data were obtained by self-reported measures (e.g., emotional and cognitive components of work-identity, psychological job demands and resources, exhaustion and work motivation) and analyzed by mediation regression analyses. The results showed that teachers' psychological job demands (prosocial extra-role performance) mediated relationships between cognitive personal work-identity and emotional collective work-identity, respectively, and exhaustion. Teachers' psychological job resources (educational inspiration) mediated relationships between emotional personal work-identity and cognitive collective work-identity, respectively, and self-determined work motivation. Thus, teachers might be disadvantaged by stronger personal work-related thinking and collective work-related feeling when related to exhaustion, to some extent accounted for by psychological job demands, and they might find advantage in stronger personal work-related feeling and collective work-related thinking when related to work motivation, to some extent accounted for by psychological job resources.
