Understanding carbon (C) dynamics from ecosystem to global scales remains a challenge. Although expansion of global carbon dioxide (CO<sub>2</sub>) observatories makes it possible to estimate C-cycle processes from ecosystem to global scales, these estimates do not necessarily agree.
