A Web of Science-Based Bibliometric Analysis of Global Noma Publications.

ABSTRACT: The World Health Organization recognizes noma as a global health problem and has suggested prioritizing research into this disease. A bibliographic search of original articles published in the Web of Science database up to 2022 was performed. A bibliometric analysis was carried out with the bibliometrix package in R and VOSviewer. We identified 251 articles published in 130 journals. The first publication was in 1975, the highest number of publications was in 2003, and the average number of citations per document was 12.59. The author with the highest number of publications was Enwonwu CO, and the Noma Children's Hospital had the highest number of articles on this topic. Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery was the journal with the most publications, and the study by Petersen PE was the most cited. The country of corresponding authors that had the most publications and the most significant number of total citations was the United States. "Children" and "Reconstruction" were the most used keywords. In conclusion, there are few publications on noma worldwide, confirming the neglected status of this disease. Urgent actions are needed to increase evidence in regard to the epidemiology of noma and public health interventions to mitigate the ravages of this disease.

Project description:BackgroundBone defects can be seen everywhere in the clinic, but it is still a challenge for clinicians. Bibliometrics tool CiteSpace is based on the principle of "co-citation analysis theory" to reveal new technologies, hotspots, and trends in the medical field. In this study, CiteSpace was used to perform co-citation analysis on authors, countries (regions) and institutions, journals and cited journals, authors and cited literature, as well as keywords to reveal leaders, cooperative institutions, and research hotspots of bone defects and predict development trends.MethodData related to bone defect from 1994 to 2019 were retrieved from the Web of Science core collection; then, we use Excel to construct an exponential function to predict the number of annual publications; conduct a descriptive analysis on the top 10 journals with the largest number of publications; and perform co-citation analysis on authors, countries (regions) and institutions, journals and cited journals, authors and cited reference, and keywords using CiteSpace V5.5 and use the Burst Detection Algorithm to perform analysis on the countries (regions) and institutions and keywords, as well as cluster the keywords using log-likelihood ratio.ResultsA total of 5193 studies were retrieved, and the number of annual publications of bone defects showed an exponential function Y = 1×10- 70e0.0829x (R2 = 0.9778). The high-yield author was Choi Seong-Ho at Yonsei University in South Korea. The high-yielding countries were the USA and Germany, and the high-yielding institutions were the Sao Paulo University and China and the Chinese Academy of Sciences which were the emerging research countries and institutions. The research results were mainly published in the fields of dentistry, bone, and metabolism. Among them, the Journal of Dental Research and Journal of Bone and Mineral Research were high-quality journals that report bone defect research, but the most cited journal was the Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research. Hot keywords were regeneration, repair, in vitro, bone regeneration, reconstruction, and graft. The keywords that were strongly cited in 2010-2019 were transportation, osteogenic differentiation, proliferation, and biomaterials. After 2018, proliferation, osteogenic differentiation, stromal cells, transmission, and mechanical properties have become new vocabulary. The drug delivery, vascularization, osteogenic differentiation and biomaterial properties of bone defects were expected to be further studied.ConclusionThe application of CiteSpace can reveal the leaders, cooperating institutions and research hotspots of bone defects and provide references for new technologies and further research directions.

Project description:BackgroundWith high morbidity and mortality, cardiopathy is a major component of cardiovascular disease, causing a huge burden of disease to public health worldwide. In recent years, research on acupuncture treatment of cardiopathies has been increasing. However, no bibliometric analysis has been conducted to systematically describe the research progress and hotspots in this field. Therefore, this study aimed to conduct a bibliometric analysis of the relevant literature to explore the current status and future development of acupuncture for cardiopathies.MethodsThe Web of Science (WoS) Core Collection Database was searched for literature related to acupuncture therapies for cardiopathies from 2011 to 2021. Using CiteSpace 5.8 R3, cooperation network diagrams of authors, institutions, countries and journals, keyword co-occurrences, and clustering were performed and analyzed.ResultsA total of 321 studies were included. Overall, the number of annual publications increased yearly. These publications came from 31 countries or regions, of which China and the United States made the greatest contributions. In total, 333 authors from 258 institutions participated in this field, and Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and Professor Fanrong Liang were the most published institution and author, respectively. Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine published the largest number of articles, and CIRCULATION was the most commonly cited journal. Based on co-occurrences and cluster analysis of 257 keywords, three research frontiers and hotspots were identified: acupuncture for blood pressure regulation, acupuncture for coronary heart disease, and acupuncture for regulation of heart rate. In these three research frontiers, the rostral ventrolateral medulla (RVLM) and autonomic nervous system (ANS) are the most popular mechanisms.ConclusionA stable development trend has formed in this field. Further research should focus on the role of acupuncture therapies in the treatment of hypertension or hypertensive heart disease, coronary heart disease, and arrhythmia based on the mechanisms related to the RVLM and ANS.

Project description:ObjectiveThe extent, range, and nature of available research in the field of herbal therapies for osteoarthritis (OA) have not been systematically analyzed. This study aimed to map the literature available on herbal therapies for OA and identify global hotspots and trends in this field.MethodsStudies on herbal therapies for OA published between 2004 and 2022 were searched from the Web of Science Core Collection. Microsoft Excel, SPSS Statistics, and CiteSpace software were used to analyze and visualize the quantity and citations of publications, and the research hotspots and trends in research on herbal therapies for OA.ResultsA total of 1649 publications mainly from 76 countries/regions and 270 institutions were included in this study. From 2004 to 2022, there is an upward trend in the publications of herbal therapies for OA. China ranked first in the number of publications (n = 568, 34.45%), followed by the USA (n = 353, 21.41%), South Korea (n = 187, 11.34%), Germany (n = 85, 5.15%), and England (n = 79, 4.79%). Kyung Hee University (n = 46), Xianxiang Liu (n = 25), and Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine (n = 74) were the most prolific affiliation, author, and journal, respectively. Felson DT (n = 185) and Arthritis and Rheumatism (n = 1173) held the record for the most cited papers by an author and journal, respectively. Currently, the hot keywords in the field of herbal therapies for OA include knee OA, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), differentiation, rosa canina, inflammation, oxidative stress, stem cell, and regenerative medicine. The emerging research trends in herbal therapies for OA are herbal medicinal product, chronic knee pain, mesenchymal stem cell, and clinical pharmacology.ConclusionsResearch on herbal therapies for OA is flourishing, but communication among countries/regions should be strengthened. Current research on herbal therapies for OA mainly focuses on knee OA, TCM, differentiation, rosa canina, inflammation, oxidative stress, stem cell, and regenerative medicine. The research frontiers are herbal medicinal product, chronic knee pain, mesenchymal stem cell, and clinical pharmacology.
