Aggressive angiomyxoma: The first case report in skull.

ABSTRACT: Aggressive angiomyxoma (AAM) is a rare mesenchymal tumor primarily growing in the soft tissue of the pelvis and perineum in women of reproductive age. It is a benign tumor that still has a probability of being accompanied by localized invasion. Although negative margins of resection are difficult to achieve due to the invasive nature of the tumor and the lack of a well-defined capsule, the first line of treatment for AAM is surgery. The diagnosis of AAM is difficult to make due to a lack of specific manifestations and specific tumor markers. In this study, we reported a case of aggressive angiomyxoma in a 2-year-old girl that rarely develops in the skull with craniocerebral compression. The patient initially had a mass on her head that attracted the attention of her family, and then she began to have episodic headaches. Surgery was performed after hospitalization, and the tumor recurred 1 year after the operation, around the originally affected skull.

Aggressive angiomyxoma of the prostate: A case report.

Project description:RATIONALE:Aggressive angiomyxoma (AAM) of the prostate should be considered as a differential diagnosis for prostatic tumor presenting with classical symptoms of benign prostatic hypertrophy. PATIENT CONCERNS:A 55-year-old man experienced persisting symptoms of prostatic enlargement associated with urinary frequency and urgency and nocturia. Computed tomography images showed low density in the enlarged prostate. DIAGNOSES:The diagnosis of AAM of the prostate was confirmed based on histopathological findings. INTERVENTIONS:The patient underwent transurethral resection of the prostate. OUTCOMES:The patient was enrolled into a watchful waiting protocol. His condition was fine without signs of recurrence on magnetic resonance imaging at the 8-month follow-up. LESSONS:AAM of the prostate should be considered a possible cause of urinary difficulty, including retention, although this may be extremely rare. A reliable diagnosis and complete tumor removal enabled optimal treatment and prevention of tumor recurrence.

Case report and literature review: Rare male aggressive angiomyxoma of the scrotum.

Project description:Aggressive angiomyxoma (AAM) is an uncommon locally infiltrative tumor that frequently occurs in the pelvic soft tissues of female patients; it has a high rate of local recurrence. However, AAM is extremely rare in males. Herein, we present the case of a 70-year-old man with a gradually enlarging painless mass in the scrotum. The patient underwent local excision of the scrotal AAM, with no local relapse after 17 months of follow-up. In addition to the present case, the clinicopathological features of males with AAM reported in literature (to the best of our knowledge) are discussed in this report. The literature review revealed that the gross morphology, clinical process, and histopathology of AAM in males resemble those of AAM in females. In particular, estrogen receptor/progesterone receptor has been shown to be expressed in male patients, which may provide an option for hormone therapy. Moreover, in males, a lower recurrence rate has been observed after surgery to remove the tumor. However, more data are needed to validate this observation. This report emphasizes the importance of considering AAM as the differential diagnosis of myxoid neoplasms in male genital areas.

Perineal and pelvic aggressive angiomyxoma: Imaging finding in an uncommon case report.

Project description:Aggressive angiomyxoma is a rare benign and locally invasive mesenchymal tumor that is found most frequently in women at reproductive age. We report typical CT and MRI appearances of a 36-year old young woman with an aggressive angiomyxoma of the pelvis and perineum that was proved by ultrasound guided biopsy.This study describe the imaging features of theses tumors,wich may help to approch the diagnosis by their distinctive imaging with high signal intensity on T2-weighted image related to the myxomatous stroma and their characteristic of swirling or layering internal pattern after intravenous gadolinium contrast administration.We also review the CT and MRI features of this disease in the current literature.

Incidental para-ureteral aggressive angiomyxoma: a rare case report and literature review.

Project description:BackgroundAggressive angiomyxoma (AA) is a rare tumor that typically occurs in the pelvis and perineum, most commonly in women of reproductive age. However, no para-ureteral AA has been reported according to the literature. Case presentation We herein describe the first case of para-ureteral AA. A 62-year-old male presented to our institute in March 2017 with a para-ureteral mass that was 15 mm in diameter incidentally. No symptom was observed and laboratory analysis was unremarkable. Magnetic resonance and computed tomography imaging showed a non-enhancing mass abutting the left ureter without causing obstruction. Laparoscopic resection of the mass was performed without injury to the ureter. Pathologic and immunohistochemical results were consistent with AA. Till now, no recurrence was noticed.ConclusionsWe reported a rare case of para-ureteral AA, along with a literature review. Early diagnosis, proper surgical plan and long-term close follow-up is recommended for its high risk of recurrence and malignant potential.

Deep (aggressive) angiomyxoma of the vagina misdiagnosed as Gartner cyst: A case report.

Project description:Introduction and importanceAggressive angiomyxoma is a rare soft tissue tumor. Aggressive angiomyxoma is a slow-growing vulvovaginal mesenchymal neoplasm with a marked tendency for local recurrence, but with a low tendency to metastasize. As it has a predilection for the pelvic and perineal regions, Aggressive angiomyxoma is often misdiagnosed. This case report documented rare case of misdiagnosed Aggressive Angiomyxoma as Gartner duct cyst.Presentation of caseThis article report a case of 31 year old women who complained mass came out from vagina without any urinary symptom and trauma. Physical examination and ultrasound finding suggested that the mass was Gartner Duct cyst. Management in this case was excision of the vaginal cyst. Histopathology examination revealed Deep (aggressive) angiomyxoma.DiscussionThe rarity of Deep (Aggressive) Angiomyxoma makes the preoperative diagnosis fairly difficult. Aggressive angiomyxoma is often misdiagnosed as it may have similar clinical presentation to common lesions such as Bartholin cyst or prolapse vaginal wall, Gartner cyst or levator hernia. Aggressive Angiomyxoma should be considered as differential diagnosis in patient with vaginal cyst.ConclusionAggressive Angiomyxoma is rare condition. Preoperative diagnosis and management are challenging. Long term follow op and evaluation should be done due to high rate of recurrence.

Application of ultrasound in aggressive angiomyxoma: Eight case reports and review of literature.

Project description:Aggressive angiomyxoma (AAM) is a rare tumour that often occurs in soft tissues of the female genital tract. Eight cases of AAM are reported in this article, and the clinical features and ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) results of the eight cases are reviewed and summarized. The main complaints of all the patients were palpable and painless masses in the vulva or scrotum. The lesions were mainly located in the vulva, pelvis, and perineal region, with a large scope of involvement. The sonographic features of AAM were characteristic. On sonography, all of the masses were of irregular shape and showed hypoechogenicity, with a heterogeneous inner echotexture. Intratumoural and peritumoural blood flows were detected by colour Doppler imaging. On real-time ultrasonic imaging, prominent deformation of the lesions was observed by compressing the masses with the probe. Some special imaging features were also revealed, including a laminated or swirled appearance of inner echogenicity, and a finger-like or tongue-like growth pattern. On MRI imaging, the lesions showed intermediate-intensity signals and intermediate to high-intensity signals on TI-weighted and T2-weighted sequences. A rapid and uneven enhancement pattern was demonstrated. After the comparison of sonographic features with MRI and pathological findings, we found the relevance of the ultrasonographic characteristics with MRI and histological features of AAM. Ultrasound can be a valuable imaging method for the preoperative diagnosis, evaluation of scope, and follow-up of AAM.

Characteristics and treatment strategies of aggressive angiomyxoma in women: A retrospective review of 87 cases.

Project description:ObjectiveAggressive angiomyxoma (AAM) is a rare kind of soft tissue tumor. The purpose of this study is to summarize the clinical manifestations and treatment strategy of AAM in women.MethodWe searched the case reports on AAM in EMBASE, Web of Science and PubMed, China biomedical database, Wanfang database, VIP database, and China National Knowledge Internet from the start of database construction to November 2022 without any language restrictions in place. Then, the obtained case data were extracted, summarized, and analyzed.ResultA total of 74 articles were retrieved involving 87 cases. The age ranges of onset were 2-67 years. The median age at onset was 34 years. The size of the tumor varied greatly among individuals, and about 65.5% of them were asymptomatic. MRI, ultrasound, and needle biopsy were used for diagnosis. Surgery was the primary mode of treatment, but it was prone to relapse. Gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRH-a) might be used to reduce the tumor size before the operation and prevent recurrence after the operation. For patients who are unwilling to receive surgical treatment, GnRH-a alone could be attempted.ConclusionDoctors should consider the possibility of AAM in women with genital tumors. For surgery, it must be ensured that the negative surgical margin is recommended and achieved for preventing recurrence, but we should not ignore the impact of the excessive pursuit for a negative margin on the patient's reproductive function protection and postoperative recovery. Long-term follow-up is necessary regardless of whether patients receive medical treatment or surgical treatment.
