Project description:BackgroundThe global nursing shortage was a well-known issue before the Covid-19 pandemic, but the Covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated the current nursing workforce shortage and reduced nursing retention. This systematic review aimed to explore factors affecting retention of nurses.MethodsThe PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus and Proquest databases were searched for relevant primary studies published on nurses retention during Covid-19 pandemic. Finally, Google Scholar was searched for retrieving more related documents that may not be indexed in other searched databases. Inclusion criteria were research articles and gray literature related to nursing retention in Covid-19 pandemic, articles published in English, access to the full-texts, and without time limitation. Both qualitative and quantitative studies focusing on factors affecting the nurses retention were included. The Joanna Briggs Institute checklists were used for assessing quality of quantitative and qualitative studies. Qualitative and thematic content analysis methods based on Braun and Clark's model were used to analyze the data.ResultsEighteen studies were identified through a systematic search of the literature. The results showed that seven factors include personal, interpersonal, organizational, social media, educational, emotional, and protective factors are the factors affect the nurses retention.ConclusionThe findings of this study showed that retention of nurse is complex and multi-factorial issue that factors from micro to macro-level affect it. Managers and health policy-makers based on the results obtained from this study can plan appropriate measures to increase the retention of nurses.

Project description:The aim was to evaluate patient satisfaction with virtual care, and identify factors associated with level of satisfaction. Surveys were mailed to all patients who had a phone visit at The Ottawa Hospital Rheumatology division. Patients' satisfaction with various aspects of the phone visits was assessed on a 5-point scale and analyzed according to demographic variables using chi-square and regression analyses. Of 2423 surveys mailed, we received 742 responses (31%). Eighty-nine percent of patients were satisfied overall with the phone visit. Statistically significant less satisfaction was seen in patients who spoke to a resident compared to their rheumatologist (p < 0.001), were not called on time (p < 0.001), had difficulty using a telephone (p < 0.001), needed assistance of a second person (p < 0.01), or had new consultations (versus routine follow-up, p = 0.01), the former 3 factors being significant in a multivariate regression analysis. Rheumatology patients expressed a high level of satisfaction with virtual care; however, areas of improvement were identified. Patients' satisfaction will be important to inform future decisions regarding the sustainability of virtual care. Further research is required to understand the impacts of virtual care on patients' Key Points • Patients in rheumatology practice were satisfied with phone visits and preferred this method to in-person visits during the pandemic. • Speaking directly to the rheumatologist, being phoned on time, and the capability of using the telephone were the major determinants of high patient satisfaction. • Based on the identified factors, further improvement of the quality of and satisfaction with phone visits can be pursued given that virtual care may continue longer, beyond the pandemic.

Project description:This paper assesses government support measures to the air transport sector following the outbreak of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic from two points of view. First, it explores the factors that shape governments' willingness to support airlines. This is followed by a discussion on the various types of support that may be provided and how country-specific parameters influence the choice of measures. Second, it analyses the implications of government support in three dimensions relevant to air transport policy: competition and liberalisation, airline ownership and control, and environmental sustainability. The analysis suggests that most governments give a high priority to maintaining air transport connectivity in order to protect economic activity and jobs, in aviation itself and in related sectors such as tourism. The trade-off between ensuring connectivity and maintaining competition after the COVID-19 pandemic is a challenge with several political and economic dimensions. The re-orientation of public policy in the aftermath of the pandemic may limit the relative importance of the policy priorities that shaped the evolution of the air transport sector before the crisis, especially those related to climate change and the environment. The role of government and public authorities at all levels - especially the type and duration of measures affecting transport operations - will be crucial for the future development of the aviation industry.

Project description:Objectives: This study aimed to identify key factors affecting Healthcare workers (HCWs) perceived stress and risk of contracting COVID-19 among themselves and their family members during the pandemic. Methods: A cross-sectional online questionnaire study was conducted between 19 March and April 5, 2020 in Hong Kong. HCWs from public hospitals and private dentists, and their family members participated. Results: A total of 747 HCWs and 245 family members participated. Higher perceived stress in HCWs was associated with more negative changes in family relationship (p = 0.025). The HCWs' perceived stress, however, was positively associated with family cohesion (p = 0.033) and stress levels of family members (p < 0.001). The level of HCWs' satisfaction toward the hospital policies in response to the COVID-19 outbreak was associated with lower levels of perceived stress and risk of themselves or their family members contracting COVID-19. HCWs' previous frontline experience of SARS was significantly associated with less perceived risk of themselves or their family members contracting COVID-19. Conclusion: Hospital policies addressing HCWs' needs, frontline experience of SARS, and family relationship influenced psychological wellbeing of HCWs during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Project description:Online shopping has accelerated during to the pandemic and an increase in online shopping cart abandonment (SCA) was also evident. The growth of online shopping is contributed by the rising middle class, high consumer spending, millennials, and a tech-savvy population which is valuable to the growth of e-commerce. This study aimed to predict the factors that affect SCA during the COVID-19 Pandemic utilizing the SEM-RFC hybrid. Several factors such as self-efficacy, attribute conflicts, hesitation at checkout, emotional ambivalence, choice process satisfaction, attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control were analyzed simultaneously. This study integrated the cognition-affect-behavior paradigm with the Theory of Planned Behavior to provide a conceptual framework measured through an online survey questionnaire answered by 1015 valid responses collected by convenience sampling. Results showed that Attitude, Attribute Conflict, Self-Efficacy, and Emotional Ambivalence are the primary significant factors affecting SCA. Amidst the pandemic, consumers still value the ease of use, convenience and safety of the mobile online shopping applications that they have, which they do not positively experience at this time. The findings of this study may be applied and extended by researchers, online retailers, and businesses to understand consumer's abandonment intentions. Moreover, the results and framework of this study may be capitalized on by the business sector to create marketing strategies and develop business models for a sustainable online shopping business worldwide.

Project description:BackgroundA large portion of COVID-19 cases and deaths in the United States have occurred in nursing homes; however, current literature including the frontline perspective of staff working in nursing homes is limited. The objective of this qualitative assessment was to better understand what individual and facility level factors may have contributed to the impact of COVID-19 on Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and Environmental Services (EVS) staff working in nursing homes.MethodsBased on a simple random sample from the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN), 7,520 facilities were emailed invitations requesting one CNA and/or one EVS staff member for participation in a voluntary focus group over Zoom. Facility characteristics were obtained via NHSN and publicly available sources; participant demographics were collected via SurveyMonkey during registration and polling during focus groups. Qualitative information was coded using NVIVO and Excel.ResultsThroughout April 2021, 23 focus groups including 110 participants from 84 facilities were conducted homogenous by participant role. Staffing problems were a recurring theme reported. Participants often cited the toll the pandemic took on their emotional well-being, describing increased stress, responsibilities, and time needed to complete their jobs. The lack of consistent and systematic guidance resulting in frequently changing infection prevention protocols was also reported across focus groups.ConclusionsAddressing concerns of low wages and lack of financial incentives may have the potential to attract and retain employees to help alleviate nursing home staff shortages. Additionally, access to mental health resources could help nursing home staff cope with the emotional burden of the COVID-19 pandemic. These frontline staff members provided invaluable insight and should be included in improvement efforts to support nursing homes recovering from the impact of COVID-19 as well as future pandemic planning.

Project description:The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is spreading exponentially, increasing fear, depression, and other mental health disorders in the general public. Pakistan's economy is suffered mainly by the novel coronavirus. The massive healthcare expenditures bring inadequacy to manage COVID-19. The study explored the effects of coronavirus fear among the students who remain in their homes due to educational institutions' closure. The study results show that female students mostly fear the coronavirus pandemic compared to their male counterparts that negatively impact their health. The "age" of the students and "household size" positively impact students' health, while the student's existing "healthcare profile" is not competitive enough to escape from the deadly coronavirus. The "knowledge" for the coronavirus pandemic and its prevention guidelines is the only solution to contain coronavirus. Simultaneously, "ignorance" is the foremost factor that could be more dangerous to spread coronavirus among the students; besides the COVID-19 pandemic, students and general public health mainly suffered from environmental pollution. The current epidemic also exacerbated environmental concerns among students isolated in their homes, and their outdoor activities are primarily limited. Hence, the student's quality of life is exposed mainly to environmental pollution over time. The "healthcare expenditures" and "government support" both are not competitive enough to control novel coronavirus. Thus, it required more sustainable strategic policies and national unity to controlled coronavirus with firm conviction and provincial synchronization.
