Di-chlorido-bis-[2-(pyridin-2-yl-κN)-1H-benzimidazole-κN ³]nickel(II) monohydrate.

ABSTRACT: In the title complex, [NiCl₂(C₁₂H₉N₃)₂]·H₂O, a divalent nickel atom is coordinated by two 2-(pyridin-2-yl)-1H-benzimidazole ligands in a slightly distorted octa-hedral environment defined by four N donors of two N,N'-chelating ligands, along with two cis-oriented anionic chloride donors. The title complex crystallized with a water mol-ecule disordered over two positions. In the crystal, a combination of O-H⋯Cl, O-H.·O and N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds, together with C-H⋯O, C-H⋯Cl and C-H⋯π inter-actions, links the complex mol-ecules and the water mol-ecules to form a supra-molecular three-dimensional framework. The title complex is isostructural with the cobalt(II) dichloride complex reported previously [Das et al. (2011 ▸). Org. Biomol. Chem. 9, 7097-7107].

The asymmetric unit consists of a nickel(II) ion, one 2-(naphthalen-1-yl)acetate anion, a neutral benzotriazole ligand and one half of a lattice water mol-ecule. The crystal packing is stabilized by O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The title compound is isotypic with its Cd(II) analogue.

Project description:The title compound, [Cd2Cl4(C18H14N4O)2], was obtained from the reaction of Cd(NO3)2·4H2O with 2-phenyl-pyridine-keton picolinoyl hydrazone and sodium chloride. Each Cd(2+) cation is coordinated by two N atoms and one O atom of the tridentate ligand and three chloride anions, forming a distorted CdNOCl3 octahedron. Each pair of adjacent metal cations is linked by two bridging chloride ligands, resulting in a dinuclear complex unit. The mol-ecular conformation is stabilized by intra-molecular N-H⋯N and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by nonclassical C-H⋯O and C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional network. In addition, π-π stacking inter-actions [centroid-centroid distances = 3.777 (2) and 3.631 (2) Å] contribute to the stabilization of the crystal packing.

Each 3,5-bis-(pyridin-4-yl-methyl-amino)-benzoate anion acts as a ?(2)-bridge, linking different nickel ions into a chain along [010]. In the crystal, adjacent chains are further linked through N-H?O, O-H?O, O-H?N and C-H?O hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional network. The coordinated water mol-ecules and a disordered water mol-ecule of hydration with 0.50 site occupancy play an important role in the formation of these hydrogen-bonding inter-actions.

Project description:In the polymeric title compound, [HgCl2(C20H12N2)] n , the Hg(II) atom is located on a twofold rotation axis and the benzene ring of the bidentate bridging 1,4-bis-[2-(pyridin-4-yl)ethyn-yl]benzene (L) ligand is located about a twofold rotation axis. The Hg(II) atom is coordinated by two N atoms of two different L ligands and by two chloride ions in a distorted tetra-hedral geometry. The dihedral angle between the coordinating pyridine and the benzene ring is 12.8 (2)°. The result of the bridging is the formation of a zigzag chain running parallel to [102]. The chains pack with no specific inter-molecular inter-actions between them.

Project description:In the title compound, [Tb(C2H3O2)2(C11H10N4)(H2O)2]NO3·H2O, the Tb3+ ion is nine-coordinated in a distorted tricapped trigonal-prismatic geometry by the three N atoms of the tridentate 1-(pyridin-2-yl-methyl-idene)-2-(pyridin-2-yl)hydrazine ligand, four carboxyl-ate O atoms of two chelating acetate groups and two O atoms of the coordinating water mol-ecules. The organic hydrazine ligand is disordered over two orientations with a refined occupancy ratio of 0.52 (3):0.48 (3). All bond lengths in the coordination environment of the Tb3+ ion are slightly larger than those observed in the isostructural Y3+ and Er3+ complexes. In the crystal, the complex cations are linked by pairs of O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds into dimers. These dimers, nitrate anions and non-coordinating water mol-ecules are joined by O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional structure.

Project description:A tetra-nuclear ZnII complex, [Zn4(C13H11N6O)2Cl6(H2O)2] or {[Zn2(HL)(H2O)(Cl2)](μCl)2[Zn2(HL)(H2O)(Cl)]}2, was synthesized by mixing an equimolar amount of a methanol solution containing ZnCl2 and a methanol solution containing the ligand H2 L [1,5-bis-(pyridin-2-yl-methyl-ene)carbono-hydrazide]. In the tetra-nuclear complex, each of the two ligand mol-ecules forms a dinuclear unit that is connected to another dinuclear unit by two bridging chloride anions. In each dinuclear unit, one ZnII cation is penta-coordinated in a N2OCl2 in a distorted square-pyramidal geometry, while the other ZnII cation is hexa-coordinated in a N3OCl2 environment with a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The basal plane around the penta-coordinated ZnII cation is formed by one chloride anion, one oxygen atom, one imino nitro-gen atom and one pyridine nitro-gen atom with the apical position occupied by a chloride anion. The basal plane of the hexa-coordinated ZnII cation is formed by one chloride anion, one hydrazinyl nitro-gen atom, one imino nitro-gen atom and one pyridine nitro-gen atom with the apical positions occupied by a water oxygen atom and a bridged chloro anion from another dinuclear unit, leading to a tetra-nuclear complex. A series of intra-molecular C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds is observed in each tetra-nuclear unit. In the crystal, the tetra-nuclear units are connected by inter-molecular C-H⋯Cl, C-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming a planar two-dimensional structure in the ac plane.

Project description:The isotypic title one-dimensional coordination polymers, [CdCl2(C18H14N4O4)] n , (I), and [HgCl2(C18H14N4O4)] n , (II), are, respectively, the cadmium(II) and mercury(II) complexes of the dimethyl ester of 5,6-bis-(pyridin-2-yl)pyrazine-2,3-di-carb-oxy-lic acid. In both compounds, the metal ions are located on a twofold rotation axis and a second such axis bis-ects the Car-Car bonds of the pyrazine ring. The metal ions are bridged by binding to the N atoms of the two pyridine rings and have an MN2Cl2 bisphenoidal coordination geometry. The metal-Npyrazine distances are much longer than the metal-Npyridine distances; the difference is 0.389 (2) Å for the Cd-N bonds but only 0.286 (5) Å for the Hg-N bond lengths. In the crystals of both compounds, the polymer chains are linked via pairs of C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds, forming corrugated slabs parallel to the ac plane.
