ABSTRACT: The title compound, C₈H₉NO₃, likely generated through hydrolysis and esterification of 3'-carb-oxy-3-methyl-(1,4'-bipyridin)-1-ium chloride by ethanol, which contained water, has a nearly planar conformation. The crystal structure is sustained by one-dimensional chains along the a-axis direction based on bifurcated N-H⋯(O,O) hydrogen bonds between the NH group of the 4-oxo-1,4-di-hydro-pyridine ring and the two carbonyl O atoms.

Project description:The synthesis and structure of 1H-indole-2-carboxylate is presented. Our work in the area of synthesis of tris indole compounds as a potential chelator led to the synthesis and crystallization of ethyl 1H-indole-2-carboxylate, C11H11NO2, an indole that was synthesized by the thionyl chloride reaction of 1H-indole-2-carboxylic acid, followed by dissolution in ethanol. The molecular packing exhibits a herringbone pattern with the zigzag running along the b-axis direction; the compound crystallizes as a hydrogen-bonded dimer resulting from O⋯H—N hydrogen bonds, between the indole N—H group and the keto oxygen atom, which build centrosymmetric R22(10) ring motifs in the crystal.

Ethyl 7-oxo-3,5-diphenyl-1,4-diazepane-2-carboxyl-ate.

Project description:The title compound, C(20)H(22)N(2)O(3), crystallizes with two independent mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit. In both mol-ecules, the diazepane rings adopt chair conformations. The mean planes of the diazepane rings in the two molecules form dihedral angles of 71.6 (4)/40.3 (5) and 75.9 (5)/58.6 (7)° with the neighbouring benzene rings. The carbonyl-group O atoms deviate significantly from the diazepane rings, by 0.685 (14) and 0.498 (13) Å. The eth-oxy-carbonyl groups show conformational difference between two mol-ecules, as reflected in the orientation of the carbonyl O atoms and the C-C-O-C torsion angle of -179.0 (2)° in one mol-ecule and 73.2 (2)° in the other. In one molecule there is a short N-H⋯O contact that generates an S(5) ring motif. In the crystal, N-H⋯O inter-actions generate R(2) (2)(8) graph-set motifs and C-H⋯O inter-actions generate R(2) (2)(10) and R(2) (2)(14) graph-set motifs. C-H⋯π inter-actions also occur.

The central diazepane ring forms dihedral angles 67.80 (7) and 72.29 (5)° with the two benzene rings. The eth-oxy-carbonyl group is disordered over two conformations with site-occupancy factors of 0.643 (5) and 0.357 (5). In the crystal, inversion dimers linked by pairs of N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds generate R(2) (2)(8) loops.

In the crystal, N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link alternating independent mol-ecules into chains in [-110]. In the chain, the quinoline planes of the independent mol-ecules are almost perpendicular to each other, forming a dihedral angle of 89.8 (1)°. π-π inter-actions between the aromatic rings of quinoline bicycles related by inversion centres [for two independent centrosymmetric dimers, the shortest centroid-centroid distances are 3.495 (1) and 3.603 (1) Å] link the hydrogen-bonded chains into layers parallel to (110). Weak C-H⋯F and C-H⋯O inter-actions further consolidate the crystal packing.

Project description:In the title compound, C13H13NO4, the asymmetric unit contains four independent mol-ecules, each exhibiting an intra-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bond. The ethyl group in one of the four mol-ecules is disordered, with a refined occupancy ratio of 0.295 (16):0.705 (16). A face-to-face stacking inter-action is found between the benzene rings of the quinoline units of two of the mol-ecules [centroid-centroid distance = 3.541 (2) Å], which are sandwiched by the other two mol-ecules through N-H⋯O hydrogen bonding. In the crystal, the sandwiched mol-ecules are assembled via stacking inter-actions along the b-axis direction with their translation-symmetry equivalents [centroid-centroid distance = 3.529 (2) Å], and are further linked through N-H⋯O hydrogen bonding. The other two mol-ecules are linked via stacking inter-actions with their inversion-symmetry equivalents [centroid-centroid distances = 3.512 (3) and 3.716 (4) Å] and via N-H⋯O hydrogen bonding.

In the crystal, C-H⋯O contacts link pairs of naphthyridine mol-ecules into head-to-tail dimers. These are joined by strong O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds from the water molecules into infinite chains along the a axis.
