Melting permafrost mounds in subarctic palsa mires are thawing under climate warming and have become a substantial source of N<sub>2</sub>O emissions. However, mechanistic insights into the permafrost thaw-induced N<sub>2</sub>O emissions in these unique habitats remain elusive.
