Diet moderates the effect of resting state functional connectivity on cognitive function.

ABSTRACT: Past research suggests modifiable lifestyle factors impact structural and functional measures of brain health, as well as cognitive performance, but no study to date has tested the effect of diet on resting state functional connectivity (rsFC), and its relationship with cognition. The current study tested whether Mediterranean diet (MeDi) moderates the associations between internetwork rsFC and cognitive function. 201 cognitively intact adults 20-80 years old underwent resting state fMRI to measure rsFC among 10 networks, and completed 12 cognitive tasks assessing perceptual speed, fluid reasoning, episodic memory, and vocabulary. Food frequency questionnaires were used to categorize participants into low, moderate, and high MeDi adherence groups. Multivariable linear regressions were used
