Radiofrequency denervation and cryoablation of the lumbar zygapophysial joints in the treatment of positive lumbar facet joint syndrome - a report of three cases.

ABSTRACT: Radiofrequency denervation of the zygapophysial (facet) joints is a frequently performed procedure for chronic low back pain. However, cryoablation represents a novel therapeutic approach for this condition. We observed and analyzed 3 cases with confirmed positive lumbar facet joint syndrome. Our results show a significant improvement in the clinical state of the patients in the first and third months after the procedure. The 6-month follow-up examination demonstrates a recurrence of pain and a gradual deterioration in the quality of life with a lasting partial pain-relief effect.
