Biomimetic anti-inflammatory and osteogenic nanoparticles self-assembled with mineral ions and tannic acid for tissue engineering.

ABSTRACT: Bone healing involves complex processes including inflammation, induction, and remodeling. In this context, anti-inflammatory and osteoconductive multi-functional nanoparticles have attracted considerable attention for application in improved bone tissue regeneration. In particular, nanoparticles that promote suppression of inflammatory response after injury and direction of desirable tissue regeneration events are of immense interest to researchers. We herein report a one-step method to prepare multi-functional nanoparticles using tannic acid (TA) and simulated body fluid (SBF) containing multiple mineral ions. Mineral-tannic acid nanoparticles (mTNs) were rapidly fabricated in 10 min, and their size (around 250-350 nm) and chemical composition were controlled through the TA concentration
