<i>Ehrlichia ruminantium</i> (<i>E. ruminantium</i>) is the causative agent of heartwater disease and it is mainly transmitted to livestock by <i>Amblyomma hebraeum</i> (<i>A. hebraeum</i>) tick in South Africa.
