The G-quadruplex (G4) forming <i>C9orf72</i> GGGGCC (G4C2) expanded hexanucleotide repeat (EHR) is the predominant genetic cause of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
