Primary dysmenorrhea (PDM) is highly associated with mood symptoms. However, the neuropathology of these comorbidities is unclear. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the structural changes in the amygdala of patients with PDM during the pain-free phase using a surface-based shape analysis. Methods
Forty-three PDM patients and forty healthy controls were recruited in the study, and all participants underwent structural magnetic resonance imaging scans during their periovulatory phase. FMRIB's Integrated Registration and Segmentation Tool (FIRST) was employed to assess the subcortical volumetric and surface alterations in patients with PDM. Moreover, correlation and mediation analyses were used to detect the clinical significance of the subcortical morpho
