Draft Genome Sequences of 9 Actinobacteria from the Family Microbacteriaceae Associated with Insect- and Nematode-Damaged Plants.

ABSTRACT: Draft genome sequences of 9 strains of known and putative new species of Microbacteriaceae isolated from insect- and nematode-damaged plants were generated using Illumina technology. The data obtained will contribute to the development of the genome-based prokaryote taxonomy and the knowledge on the biology of the microbial group investigated.

Draft Genome of the Insect-Parasitic Nematode Bradynema Listronoti.

We present the first sequence for this species and for any Allantonematidae, produced with a combination of short and long reads. The draft genome of B. listronoti is 80.6 Mb in size, assembled in 152 scaffolds.

Nematode genome announcement: The draft genome sequence of entomopathogenic nematode Heterorhabditis indica.

Project description:Heterorhabditis indica is one of the most widely used entomopathogenic nematodes for the biological control of agricultural insect pests worldwide. The draft genome of H. indica was sequenced using three genomic libraries of 300 bp, 600 bp and 5 kb sizes by Illumina HiSeq platform. The size of the draft genome assembly was 91.26 Mb, comprising 3,538 scaffolds. Genome completeness analysis by BUSCO (Benchmarking Universal Single-Copy Orthologs) showed 84% complete, and 6.5% fragmented BUSCOs. Further, 10,494 protein-coding genes were predicted. The H. indica draft genome will enable comparative and functional genomic studies in Heterorhabditis nematodes.

Nematode Genome Announcement: A Draft Genome of Seed Gall Nematode, Anguina tritici.

Project description:Anguina tritici is the first plant-parasitic nematode described in literature, dating back to the year 1743. It is responsible for causing earcockle (seed gall) and tundu diseases in wheat and rye. Notably, this nematode has been observed to survive in an anhydrobiotic state for up to 32 years within wheat seed galls. These exceptional characteristics have inspired the sequencing of the A. tritici genome. In this study, we present the initial draft genome of A. tritici, obtained using the Illumina MiSeq platform with coverage of 60-fold. The genome is estimated to have a size of 164 Mb and comprises 39,965 protein-coding genes, exhibiting a GC content of 39.1%. The availability of this genome data will serve as a foundation for future functional biological investigations, particularly for genes whose functions remain unknown to this day.

Draft Genome of Tanacetum Coccineum: Genomic Comparison of Closely Related Tanacetum-Family Plants.

Project description:The plant Tanacetum coccineum (painted daisy) is closely related to Tanacetum cinerariifolium (pyrethrum daisy). However, T. cinerariifolium produces large amounts of pyrethrins, a class of natural insecticides, whereas T. coccineum produces much smaller amounts of these compounds. Thus, comparative genomic analysis is expected to contribute a great deal to investigating the differences in biological defense systems, including pyrethrin biosynthesis. Here, we elucidated the 9.4 Gb draft genome of T. coccineum, consisting of 2,836,647 scaffolds and 103,680 genes. Comparative analyses of the draft genome of T. coccineum and that of T. cinerariifolium, generated in our previous study, revealed distinct features of T. coccineum genes. While the T. coccineum genome contains more numerous ribosome-inactivating protein (RIP)-encoding genes, the number of higher-toxicity type-II RIP-encoding genes is larger in T. cinerariifolium. Furthermore, the number of histidine kinases encoded by the T. coccineum genome is smaller than that of T. cinerariifolium, suggesting a biological correlation with pyrethrin biosynthesis. Moreover, the flanking regions of pyrethrin biosynthesis-related genes are also distinct between these two plants. These results provide clues to the elucidation of species-specific biodefense systems, including the regulatory mechanisms underlying pyrethrin production.
