ABSTRACT: Here, we announce the draft genome sequence of Lactobacillus brevis 2-34, a strain isolated from the fermentation process of Shaoxing huangjiu (Chinese rice wine). The genome size of 2-34 was 2,557,496 bp, with 2,459 coding genes, 67 tRNAs, and 2 rRNAs.

Project description:This report describes the draft genome sequence of Lactobacillus brevis TUCO-5E, a probiotic strain isolated from porcine maternal milk. The reads were generated by a whole-genome sequencing (WGS) strategy on an Illumina MiSeq sequencer and were assembled into contigs with a total estimated size of 2,461,089 bp. A total of 2,455 open reading frames (ORFs) were predicted, including 2,301 protein-coding sequences. The draft genome sequence of L. brevis TUCO-5E will be useful for further studies of specific genetic features and for understanding the mechanisms of its probiotic properties in the porcine host.

Project description:Here the draft genome sequence of Lactobacillus paracasei strain DTA83, isolated from stools of healthy infants in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), is reported. The 2.8-Mb genome possesses 2825 protein-coding sequences distributed on 330 SEED subsystems. This strain belongs to a set of potentially probiotic Lactobacillus spp. strains used to study genetic factors related to antibiotic resistance after stress conditions, such as simulated gastrointestinal conditions. Project description:Lactobacillus fermentum Lf2, an Argentine cheese isolate, can produce high concentrations of exopolysaccharides (EPS). These EPS were shown to improve the texture and rheology of yogurt, as well as to play a protective role in mice exposed to Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium. Three gene clusters potentially involved in EPS production were identified in different locations of the L. fermentum Lf2 genome.
