ABSTRACT: A gigantic right atrial appendage aneurysm (RAAA) is a rare condition usually discovered during the third decade of life after being symptomatic. We present an asymptomatic RAAA discovered early during the basic screening of an infant and its natural history, and a ten-year follow-up due to its parents being against operation.

Congenital left atrial appendage aneurysm: A rare case report and literature review.

Project description:Left atrial appendage aneurysms (LAAA) are rare. Patients with LAAA are often diagnosed incidentally or after cardiac tachyarrhythmia or systemic thromboembolism happen. Early diagnosis and surgical resection is of utmost importance to prevent hazardous adverse events.We present a case of 46-year-old man with congenital LAAA. The individual in this manuscript has given written informed consent to publish these case details.Imaging studies, such as echocardiography, cardiovascular computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), demonstrated the large cavity arising from the left atrial appendage. The diagnosis of LAAA was confirmed.The patient underwent an aneurysmectomy without any complications.TTE confirmed the disappearance of the LAAA from the left parasternal short-axis view of the aortic root postoperatively. The patient remained asymptomatic without any adverse events at his 3-month follow-up visits.The associated high risk of life-threatening complications and the relative ease of surgical removal suggest that prompt evaluation should be considered in patients with lesions adjacent to the left heart border.

A case of right atrial appendage aneurysm mimicking a pericardial cyst on echocardiogram.

Project description:Right atrial appendage aneurysms (RAAAs) are rarely encountered. If symptomatic, they present with atrial arrhythmias or embolic events. Surgical resection is indicated for symptomatic patients. We describe a 65-year-old man presenting with palpitation for 6 months. Electrocardiogram showed atrial flutter. Transthoracic echocardiography revealed a large thin-walled cystic mass anterior to right ventricular outflow tract, which was confirmed to be a giant RAAA by contrast transoesophageal echocardiography and later by contrast-enhanced computerised tomography. The patient underwent electrocardioversion, following which he remained in sinus rhythm and was asymptomatic during the 3 months follow-up period.RAAA can present with atrial flutter.Transoesophageal contrast echocardiography is the most valuable non-invasive tool in diagnosis of RAAA.Although computed tomography scan is not necessary for establishing the diagnosis, it may provide useful information regarding the structural anatomy.

Fetal Atrial Septal Aneurysm: Follow-Up from Second to Third Trimester.

Project description:Atrial septal aneurysm (ASA) is a rarely reported fetal finding. Its definition is variable, but the diagnosis is usually made when the foramen ovale flap extends at least halfway across the left atrium. It is considered a transient, self-limiting condition, but on occasion, it can be complicated by fetal arrhythmia or left ventricular (LV) inflow obstruction-if longstanding, this can lead to left heart hypoplasia. We present two cases of ASA diagnosed at the second trimester scan, one of which was subsequently complicated by LV inflow obstruction and prenatal suspicion of hypoplastic aortic arch. This report is a good illustration of how structure follows function: a small LV preload can lead to a decreased LV output, which in turn will end up in a hypoplastic LV and outflow tract-all this is reversible after birth, due to the physiological circulatory modifications that occur in the newborn.

Case Report: One heart with two lobes: a rare infantile congenital giant left atrial appendage aneurysm.

Project description:Left atrial appendage aneurysm (LAAA) is an extremely rare congenital heart abnormality, with varying degrees of symptoms, ranging from asymptomatic to arrhythmia, thromboembolic event or airway obstruction. Most infantile cases were incidentally found by echocardiography. Contrast-enhanced chest tomography can confirm the diagnosis and inform surgical plan. We describe an asymptomatic young female infant who had a unique extreme cardiomegaly on a chest x-ray and received surgical aneurysmectomy. Her heart was restored to a normal cardiac size after the heart surgery.
