Petal color in <i>Zinnia elegans</i> is characterized mainly by anthocyanin accumulation. The difference in the content of anthocyanins, especially cyanidins, affects petal coloration in <i>Z. elegans</i>, but the underlying regulatory mechanism remains elusive.
