Classical galactosemia (CG) is a disorder of galactose metabolism which results from deficiency of the enzyme galactose-1-phosphate uridylyl transferase (GALT). Treatment consists of immediately eliminating galactose from the diet in the new-born and lifelong restriction of dietary galactose.
