American bullfrog (<i>Rana castesbeiana</i>) saxiphilin (<i>Rc</i>Sxph) is a high-affinity "toxin sponge" protein thought to prevent intoxication by saxitoxin (STX), a lethal bis-guanidinium neurotoxin that causes paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels (Na<sub>V</sub>s).
