Complete chloroplast genome sequence of Hibiscus trionum Linnaeus 1753 (Malvaceae).

ABSTRACT: Hibiscus trionum L. is an annual herbaceous plant belonging to the Malvaceae family. It is native to Central Africa, however, is now naturalized in Europe and Asia including Korea. Here, we report the complete chloroplast genome assembly of H. trionum. The complete chloroplast genome comprises 160,530 bp and is divided into four typical regions: a large single-copy region of 89,272 bp, a pair of inverse repeats of 26,152 bp each, and a small single-copy region of 18,954 bp. A total of 131 genes were identified in this chloroplast, of which 86 were protein-coding, 37 were tRNA, and 8 were rRNA genes. The results of this study will serve as a key reference for further research on Hibiscus speciation.

Project description:Melochia corchorifolia Linnaeus, 1753, is a weedy tropical plant of the Sterculiaceae family and has medicinal value. We sequenced the complete chloroplast genome of M. corchorifolia using Illumina high-throughput sequencing and examined phylogenetic relationships with closely related species. The assembled chloroplast genome of M. corchorifolia was 163,693 bp long and contained a pair of inverted repeats of 29,729 bp, separated by a large single-copy sequence of 84,350 bp and a small single-copy region of 19,885 bp. A total of 136 genes were annotated across the entire chloroplast genome, including 37 transfer RNA, 8 ribosomal RNA, and 91 protein-coding genes. The GC content of the complete cp genome was 37.27%. The phylogenetic tree indicated that M. corchorifolia is closely related to Melochia pyramidata (Malvaceae). These results would provide useful information for future phylogenetic, taxonomic, and evolutionary studies on Sterculiaceae and Malvaceae.

Complete Chloroplast Genome Sequence of Hibiscus cannabinus and Comparative Analysis of the Malvaceae Family.

Project description:Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus) is one of the most fast-growing bast in the world and belongs to the family Malvaceae. However, the systematic classification and chloroplast (cp) genome of kenaf has not been reported to date. In this study, we sequenced the cp genome of kenaf and conducted phylogenetic and comparative analyses in the family of Malvaceae. The sizes of H. cannabinus cp genomes were 162,903 bp in length, containing 113 unique genes (79 protein-coding genes, four rRNA genes, and 30 tRNA genes). Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the cp genome sequence of H. cannabinus has closer relationships with Talipariti hamabo and Abelmoschus esculentus than with Hibiscus syriacus, which disagrees with the taxonomical relationship. Further analysis obtained a new version of the cp genome annotation of H. syriacus and found that the orientation variation of small single copy (SSC) region exists widely in the family of Malvaceae. The highly variable ycf1 and the highly conserved gene rrn32 were identified among the family of Malvaceae. In particular, the explanation for two different SSC orientations in the cp genomes associated with phylogenetic analysis is discussed. These results provide insights into the systematic classification of the Hibiscus genus in the Malvaceae family.

The chloroplast genome of H. taiwanensis was 161,056 bp in length, containing a couple of inverted repeat (IR) regions of 26,300 bp, a large single-copy (LSC) region of 89,538 bp and a small single-copy (SSC) region of 18,918 bp. The complete chloroplast genome annotation revealed a total of 131 genes, including 85 protein-coding genes, 7 rRNA genes, and 37 tRNA genes. The entire GC content was 36.9%. Phylogenetic tree analyses indicated that H. taiwanensis was closely clustered with H. rosa-sinensis and H. syriacus.

Complete chloroplast genome sequence of a bulbous flowering plant, Allium triquetrum Linnaeus, 1753 (Amaryllidaceae).

Project description:Allium triquetrum (Linnaeus, 1753) is a bulbous flowering plant of the genus Allium (Amaryllidaceae), native to the Mediterranean basin, and is now widespread and invasive in different parts of the world via ornamental horticultural trade. However, to date, the genomic study of A. triquetrum has lagged, which impedes the development of appropriate utilization and management practices for this species. Here, we report the complete chloroplast genome sequence of A. triquetrum. The chloroplast genome size of A. triquetrum was 153,298 bp, consisting of a pair of inverted repeat regions (26,547 bp), separated by a large single-copy (82,875 bp) region and a small single-copy (17,329 bp) region. Genome annotation predicted 133 genes, including 87 protein-coding genes, 38 tRNA genes, and eight rRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis based on 60 whole chloroplast genome sequences of Allium species suggested that A. triquetrum and A. moly are sister to each other along with the clade of A. fasciculatum, A. hookeri, and A. macranthum.

Here, the complete chloroplast (cp) genome sequence of H. tiliaceus was assembled and characterized. The cp genome was 161,748 bp in length, consisting of a large single copy (LSC) region of 89,190 bp and a small single copy (SSC) region of 19,616 bp, which were separated by a pair of 26,471 bp inverted repeat (IR) regions. The overall GC content was 36.88%. A total of 131 genes, including 85 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes and 8 rRNA genes were identified. Phylogenetic tree reconstructed by 15 complete cp genomes revealed that H. tiliaceus was sister to the congeneric species H. cannabinus.

Project description:Blechnopsis orientalis (Linnaeus) C. Presl (1753) is a fern used both as food and medicine. It is found primarily in southern China and Southeast Asia, thriving in warm, humid shrublands or sparse forest. The total length of the chloroplast genome is 155,211 bp, including a large single-copy region (LSC, 81,877 bp), a small single-copy region (SSC, 21,500 bp), and two inverted repeat regions (IRs, 25,917 bp). The GC content is 41.3%. A total of 131 genes were annotated, including 88 protein-coding genes, eight rRNA genes, and 35 tRNA genes. The phylogenetic analysis using the maximum-likelihood method showed that B. orientalis and Oceaniopteris gibba were closely related. This study provides genomic resources for phylogenetic genetics and resource exploitation of B. orientalis.

It belongs to the Malvaceae family and has greatly ornamental and ecological value. Whole plastome sequence of Hibiscus moscheutos L. 1753 (Malvaceae) and its phylogenetic analysis.

Project description:Hibiscus moscheutos, a perennial herb in the Malvaceae family, has medicinal properties but lacks molecular data. This study sequenced and analyzed its first complete plastome using next-generation sequencing. The 160,208 bp circular plastome has a typical quadripartite structure with 130 genes and 36.93% GC content. Phylogenetic analysis showed that H. mutabilis is sister to H. taiwanensis. This study provides essential molecular data for future research on Hibiscus phylogeny, taxonomy, and evolution.

The complete chloroplast genome of Malvaviscus penduliflorus (Malvaceae)

Project description:Abstract In this study, we assembled the complete chloroplast (cp) genome of Malvaviscus penduliflorus using high-throughput Illumina sequencing reads. The resulting plastome assembly displayed a typical quadripartite structure with a total length of 160,332 bp, containing a pair of inverted repeat regions (IRs) of 26,313 bp separated by a large single-copy region (LSC) of 88,750 bp and a small single-copy region (SSC) of 18,956 bp. The M. penduliflorus cp genome contained 128 genes, and its overall GC content was 36.96%. Phylogenetic analysis among M. penduliflorus and five other Malvaceae species demonstrated that M. penduliflorus was closely related to Urena procumbens and Hibiscus cannabinus. The M. penduliflorus cp genome presented in this study will lay a good foundation for further genetic and genomic studies of the genus Malvaviscus as well as Malvaceae.

Its petals and leaves can promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis, and can also be used to relax the muscles and collaterals. In this study, we sequenced the complete chloroplast genome sequence of C. picta to investigate its phylogenetic relationship in the family Abutilon. The complete chloroplast size of C. picta is 160,398 bp, including a large single-copy (LSC) region of 89,088 bp, a small single-copy (SSC) region of 20,138 bp, a pair of invert repeats (IRs) regions of 25,586 bp. The GC content of the whole complete chloroplast genome is 37.0%. We annotated 128 genes in the genome in detail, including 84 protein-coding genes, 36 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that C. picta was closely related to Abutilon theophrati.
