Complete Annotated Genome Sequences of Two Novel Microbacteriophages, Gingerbug and HerculesXL, from Western Oregon, USA.

ABSTRACT: Bacteriophages Gingerbug and HerculesXL are siphoviruses that were isolated from soil in western Oregon, USA, using the actinobacterium Microbacterium foliorum. The genomes of Gingerbug and HerculesXL are similar in length and, based on gene content similarity to actinobacteriophages, were assigned to phage clusters GF and EA11, respectively.

Project description:Four lytic phages, vB_KpnP_BIS33, vB_KpnP_IL33, and vB_KpnP_PRA33 of the Podoviridae family and vB_KpnM_BIS47 of the Myoviridae family, which act against animal-pathogenic Klebsiella pneumoniae strains, were isolated from sewage plants in Poland. They possess double-stranded DNA genomes of 41,697 bp, 41,335 bp, 40,605 bp, and 147,443 bp, respectively.

Complete Genome Sequences of Tomato Leaf Curl Guam Virus, a Novel Tomato-Infecting Begomovirus from Guam, USA.

Project description:Genome sequences of a novel begomovirus infecting tomato on Guam were obtained using primer-walking and sequencing. The complete genome sequences are 2,750 nucleotides long with a typical monopartite organization and display less than 91% nucleotide sequence identity to other begomoviruses. A provisional name, tomato leaf curl Guam virus (ToLCGuV), is proposed.

Complete genome sequences of two insect-specific flaviviruses.

Project description:We determined the complete genomic sequences of two previously discovered insect-specific flaviviruses, Marisma mosquito virus (MMV) and Nanay virus (NANV), using a combination of high-throughput sequencing, reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction, 5' and 3' rapid amplification of cDNA ends and Sanger sequencing. Complete polyprotein amino acid sequence alignments revealed that the closest known relatives of MMV and NANV are Donggang virus (89% identity, 95% similarity) and Nounané virus (53% identity, 70% similarity), respectively. Phylogenetic inference is in agreement with these findings. Potential programmed -1 ribosomal frameshifting sites were bioinformatically identified in the genomes of both viruses.

Project description:Here, we describe the isolation and genomic annotation of two novel siphovirus species of bacteriophages that infect Bacteroides uniformis: Bacteroides phage EMB1 and Bacteroides phage EMB2. EMB1 has a 34,204-bp genome with 48 coding sequences, and EMB2 has a 34,008-bp genome with 47 coding sequences.
