Here, we report on the fabrication of light-switchable and light-responsive membranes based on graphene oxide (GO) modified with azobenzene compounds. Azobenzene and <i>para</i>-aminoazobenzene were grafted onto graphene oxide layers by covalent attachment/condensation reaction prior to the membranes' assembly.
