The R-type voltage-gated Ca<sup>2+</sup> (Ca<sub>v</sub>) channels Ca<sub>v</sub>2.3, widely expressed in neuronal and neuroendocrine cells, represent potential drug targets for pain, seizures, epilepsy, and Parkinson's disease.
