Mutations in Kv1.1 (Kcna1) voltage-gated potassium channels in humans and mice generate network hyperexcitability, enhancing aberrant postnatal neurogenesis in the dentate subgranular zone, resulting in epilepsy and hippocampal hypertrophy.
