Analysis of the factors influencing the college students' employment willingness under the strategy of "strengthening the provincial capital".

ABSTRACT: University graduates can inject strong impetus into the development of cities. However, China's "Strengthening the Provincial Capital" strategy attracts many college graduates, resulting in many limitations in attracting college students to employment in non-provincial capital cities. This paper systematically studies college students' work and entrepreneurial intention factors. We conduct a social survey of employment and entrepreneurial intentions among university graduates in Xiangtan City, Hunan Province, and obtain 12,897 questionnaires. Then, we construct an index analysis system (IAS) and analyze the 12897 questionnaires systematically based on IAS. The results show that urban characteristics and personal orientation most directly affect college graduates' employment and entrepreneurial willingness. Based on the statistical conclusions, we put forward corresponding policy recommendations. Colleges should build a "government-enterprise-school" cooperation mechanism, implement strategically focused attraction policies following local conditions and local conditions, and promote the employment of college students to promote employment and entrepreneurship in non-provincial capitals.

Project description:BackgroundVaccination is an important preventive measure against the coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) pandemic. We aimed to examine the willingness to vaccination and influencing factors among college students in China.MethodsFrom March 18 to April 26, 2021, we conducted a cross-sectional online survey among college students from 30 universities in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. The survey was composed of the sociodemographic information, psychological status, experience during pandemic, the willingness of vaccination and related information. Students' attitudes towards vaccination were classified as 'vaccine acceptance', 'vaccine hesitancy', and 'vaccine resistance'. Multinomial logistic regression analyses were performed to identify the influencing factors associated with vaccine hesitancy and resistance.ResultsAmong 23,143 students who completed the survey, a total of 22,660 participants were included in the final analysis with an effective rate of 97.9% after excluding invalid questionnaires. A total of 60.6% of participants would be willing to receive COVID-19 vaccine, 33.4% were hesitant to vaccination, and 6.0% were resistant to vaccination. Social media platforms and government agencies were the main sources of information vaccination. Worry about the efficacy and adverse effects of vaccine were the top two common reason of vaccine hesitancy and resistance. Multiple multinomial logistic regression analysis identified that participants who worried about the adverse effects of vaccination were more likely to be vaccine hesitancy (aOR = 2.44, 95% CI = 2.30, 2.58) and resistance (aOR = 2.71, 95% CI = 2.40, 3.05).ConclusionMore than half of college students are willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, whereas nearly one-third college students are still hesitant or resistant. It is crucial to provide sufficient and scientific information on the efficacy and safety of vaccine through social media and government agencies platforms to promote vaccine progress against COVID-19 and control the pandemic in China.

Project description:BackgroundHigh myopia (HM) may elicit irreversible pathological changes in the fundus and severely impair visual quality, thereby becoming a major public health issue in China. However, the influencing factors associated with HM remain unknown in Chinese college students, whose visual quality is crucial to country development.MethodsThis is a cross-sectional observational study. Two thousand three hundred and fifteen undergraduate and graduate students were initially recruited from various majors in 3 universities in Tianjin, China. Under the principle of voluntary participation and informed consent, simple random sampling was conducted in the recruited subjects while maintaining balanced number of subjects from each major. After screening with inclusion and exclusion criteria, 96 undergraduate and graduate students (186 eyes) were finally included and divided into non-HM and HM groups. The eyes of subjects were examined by optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) for vessel density and structure thickness at the macula and optic disc, and the subjects were surveyed by an itemized questionnaire on lifestyles and study habits.ResultsThe OCTA and questionnaire results revealed 10 factors, including hemodynamic and anatomic parameters and lifestyle metrics, with statistical significance between the non-HM and HM groups. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis showed that vessel density of the inner retina at the macula, vessel density of the radial peripapillary capillary at the optic disc, smartphone usage time, continuous near work time, and sleeping after midnight had superior values of area under the curve (AUC > 0.700). Therefore, these 5 factors were selected for univariant and multivariant logistic regression analyses. A prediction model comprising the 5 influencing factors had an AUC of 0.940 and 95% CI of 0.908-0.972.ConclusionThis study for the first time identified the vessel density of the inner retina at the macula, the vessel density of the radial peripapillary capillary at the optic disc, smartphone usage time, continuous near work time, and sleeping after midnight as influencing factors associated with HM in Chinese college students. A prediction model comprising the 5 influencing factors was proposed for calculating likelihood of a Chinese college student developing HM, based on which lifestyle improvement and medical intervention might be recommended.

Project description:BackgroundAffected by the COVID-19, many colleges have adopted online teaching. Meanwhile, the digital transformation of academic journals has shifted readers' reading habits from traditional paper media to digital media. Digital academic reading has become the main reading method of college students during the COVID-19 pandemic.PurposeThe purpose of this study was to investigate the behavioral characteristics of college students' digital academic reading and explore the internal factors and external environmental factors affecting the Intention and Use behavior of digital academic reading. At the same time this study provide recommendations to address these influencing factors in terms of the individual, the environment and library resources.MethodsBased on UTAUT2 model and digital academic reading theories, this paper constructs a digital academic reading information behavior (DARB) model of college students to examine college students' digital academic reading behavior and intention. College students with digital academic reading behavior were recruited as research participants. A multi-stage sampling technique was used to collect representative samples from universities in Nanjing. 239 respondents participated in the questionnaire, with 189 providing valid data. Results: Effort expectancy (EE), social influence (SI), price value (PV), perceived risk (PR) and habit (BH) have a significant impact on behavioral intention (BI), and behavioral intention (BI) and habit (BH) have a significant impact on use behavior (B). However, performance expectancy (PE) and facilitating conditions (FC) have no significant influence on behavioral intention (BI).Originality/valueThe findings of this study will help fill the gap in previous research on the relationship between the influencing factors of digital academic reading and college students' reading intentions and behaviors, so as to provide a basis for improving the academic reading literacy program in colleges and optimizing the current digital academic reading environment.

Project description:Worldwide, millions of people die of sudden cardiac arrest every year. This is partly due to limited and sometimes ineffective bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The need for mouth-to-mouth contact, fear of causing harm, litigation, and the complexity of delivering CPR are the main deterrents. In view of this, the basic life support algorithm has been simplified and lay rescuers are encouraged to perform Hands-Only CPR.The objective of this study is to assess knowledge on and willingness to perform Hands-Only CPR among Malaysian college students and to determine the relationship between the two.In an online self-administered survey, college students responded to a questionnaire on demographics, exposure to CPR, knowledge on Hands-Only CPR, and their willingness to perform Hands-Only CPR in 5 different scenarios (family members or relatives, strangers, trauma victims, children, and elderly people).Data for 393 participants were analyzed. For knowledge, the mean score was 8.6 ± 3.2 and the median score was 9. In the sample, 27% of the respondents did not attend any CPR training before, citing that they were unsure where to attend the course. The knowledge score among those who attended CPR training (M = 3.6, S = 2.9) was significantly higher compared to those who did not (M = 6.7, S = 3.0). Out of the 393 participants, 67.7%, 55%, 37.4%, 45%, and 49.1% were willing to perform Hands-Only CPR on family members or relatives, strangers, trauma victims, children, and elderly people, respectively. There were significant associations (P < .001) between knowledge and willing to perform Hands-Only CPR on family members or relatives (OR = 1.32, 95% CI 1.43, 1.43), strangers (OR = 1.31, 95% CI 1.21, 1.42), trauma victims (OR = 1.21, 95% CI 1.12, 1.31), children (OR = 1.28, 95% CI 1.19, 1.39), and elderly people (OR = 1.36 95% CI 1.25, 1.48).Based on this study, knowledge on Hands-Only CPR among local college students is not encouraging. Not many know where to attend such courses. There was significant association between knowledge and willingness to perform Hands-Only CPR.

Project description:BackgroundSleep quality is related to physical and mental health. Though bedtime procrastination has been identified as a potentially key source of poor sleep quality, related research is scarce. The goal of our study was to determine bedtime procrastination among nursing students and identify its influencing factors.MethodsThis cross-sectional study comprised 1827 junior college nursing students. The data were collected from November to December 2021 using a mobile app-based survey. We evaluated demographic factors, Big Five personality traits, self-regulatory fatigue, future time perspective, and problematic mobile phone use. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to identify independent characteristics that influence bedtime procrastination among junior college nursing students.ResultsThe mean bedtime procrastination score in junior college nursing students was 25.11 ± 6.88. Family monthly income of 3000-6000 RMB (β = 0.740; p = 0.015), as well as that of > 6000 RMB (β = 1.708; p = 0.001), and an extroverted personality (β = 0.225; p = 0.001), self-regulatory fatigue (β = 0.135; p < 0.001), and problematic mobile phone use (β = 0.078; p < 0.001) had significant positive effects on bedtime procrastination. Conscientious personality (β = - 0.284; p = 0.003), neurotic personality (β = - 0.203; p = 0.031), and future time perspective (β = - 0.141; p < 0.001) had significant negative effects on bedtime procrastination.ConclusionThe nursing students who participated in this study had moderate levels of bedtime procrastination. Bedtime procrastination was predicted by higher monthly household income; personality traits of extroversion, conscientiousness, and neuroticism; self-regulatory fatigue; future time perspective; and problematic mobile phone use.Practical implicationsWe recommend that effective measures are needed to help alleviate bedtime procrastination and improve the health and well-being of nursing students.
