Oxidative coupling of hydroxycinnamoylagmatines in barley (<i>Hordeum vulgare</i>) and related <i>Hordeum</i> species is part of the plant defense mechanism. Three linkage types have been reported for hydroxycinnamoylagmatine dimers, but knowledge on oxidative coupling reactions underlying their formation is limited.
