The complete chloroplast genome of Cynoglossum amabile Stapf & J. R. Drumm., 1906 (Boraginaceae), a traditional Chinese herbal medicine.

ABSTRACT: Cynoglossum amabile Stapf & J. R. Drumm., 1906 is a traditional Chinese herbal medicine from southwest China. To better determine its phylogenetic relatedness to other Boraginaceae species, the chloroplast (cp) genome of C. amabile was sequenced. The complete cp genome of C. amabile is 151,532 bp in length, containing a small single-copy (SSC) region with a length of 17,366 bp, a large single-copy (LSC) region with a length of 82,902 bp, and a pair of inverted repeats (IRs) regions each with a length of 25,632 bp. The overall GC content of the cp genome is 37.4%. The maximum-likelihood phylogenetic tree showed that Bothriospermum zeylanicum (J. Jacq.) Druce, 1917 was closely related to C. amabile.

Project description:Leptopus chinensis (Bunge) Pojark is a medicinal herb endemic to China. In this study, its complete chloroplast (cp) genome was characterized with a discussion of its phylogenetic placement. The cp genome of L. chinensis was 154,600 bp long, with a double-stranded circular tetrad structure containing a small single-copy (SSC) region (17,717 bp), a large single-copy (LSC) region (83,159 bp), and a pair of inverted repeat (IR) regions (26,862 bp each). The overall GC content of the genome was 36.8% (LSC, 34.7%; SSC, 29.8%; IR, 42.3%). Phylogenetic analysis indicated that L. chinensis is a sister species to L. cordifolius.

Project description:Mentha canadensis is a well-known resource of traditional Chinese herbal medicine, belonging to the Mentha of the Labiatae family. In this study, the whole chloroplast genome of the M. canadensis chloroplast genome was sequenced, assembled and annotated, which contains 134 unique genes, including 89 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes and 8 rRNA genes. A maximum likelihood phylogenetic tree based on 11 complete chloroplast genomes revealed that M. canadensis is closely related to M. longifolia and M. spicata. The chloroplast genome could be used for variety identification, genetic engineering and effective protection of germplasm resources.

Project description:Uncaria macrophylla (Rubiaceae) is a medicinal vine plant of the Rubiaceae family that was distributed in East Asia and Southeast Asia. The first complete chloroplast genome of Uncaria macrophylla was sequenced and assembled in this study. The genome is 155,138 bp in length and contained 129 encoded genes in total, including 79 protein-coding genes, eight ribosomal RNA genes, and 37 transfer RNA genes. The phylogenomic analysis showed that U. macrophylla was closely related to Uncaria rhynchophylla according to the current sampling extent.

Project description:Erigeron breviscapus is an important traditional Chinese herb endemic to China for cardiovascular and cerebral vessel diseases. Here, the complete plastid genome of E. brevisapus was sequenced using Illumina sequencing technology. The complete chloroplast genome size is 152,183 bp, including a large single-copy region of 84,705 bp, a small single-copy region of 18,112 bp and a pair of inverted repeat regions of 24,683 bp. The total GC content is 37.2%. The genome contains 113 genes, including 80 protein-coding genes, 29 tRNA genes, and four rRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis showed that E. breviscapus, Aster altaicus, and Eschenbachia blinii formed a clade with 100% bootstrap support.

Complete chloroplast genome sequence of Pueraria thomsonii, an important traditional Chinese medicine plant.

Project description:Pueraria thomsonii is a leguminous plant with high root yield and starch content. It is also a medicinal material in the Chinese pharmacopeia. However, the raw materials of P. thomsonii are often confused with some non-medicinal Pueraria plants. To enrich the genetic resources of P. thomsonii and guide its molecular identification, the complete chloroplast genome was sequenced and reported. The total genome of P. thomsonii is 153,434 bp in length. consisting of two inverted repeat regions (IRS, 25,640 bp each) separated by a large single-copy (LSC, 84,155 bp) and a small single-copy region (SSC, 17,999 bp). The overall GC content is 35.41%. It contains 130 genes, including 85 protein coding genes, 8 rRNA genes and 37 tRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis showed that P. thomsonii could be distinguished from other plants and closely related to the legume Pachyrhizus erosus. This study enriches the genetic information of P. thomsonii and contributes to the screening of excellent germplasm.

A total of 129 genes were annotated, including 37 tRNA, 8 rRNA, and 84 protein-coding genes. Phylogenetic analysis showed T. terrestris clustered with Krameria lanceolate and Krameria bicolor.

The whole cp genome of A. bidentata contains 130 genes(85 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNAs and eight rRNAs) and the overall GC content is 36.5%. Phylogenetic analysis based on the cp genome data showed that A. bidentata was close to Cyathula capitata.
