What Is Known about Midazolam? A Bibliometric Approach of the Literature.

ABSTRACT: Midazolam is a drug with actions towards the central nervous system producing sedative and anticonvulsants effects, used for sedation and seizures treatments. A better understanding about its effects in the different scenarios presented in the literature could be helpful to gather information regarding its clinical indications, pharmacological interactions, and adverse events. From this perspective, the aim of this study was to analyze the global research about midazolam mapping, specifically the knowledge of the 100 most-cited papers about this research field. For this, a search was executed on the Web of Science-Core Collection database using bibliometric methodological tools. The search strategy retrieved 34,799 articles. A total of 170 articles were evaluated, with 70 articles being excluded for not meeting the inclusion criteria. The 100 most-cited articles rendered 42,480 citations on WoS-CC, ranging from 253 to 1744. Non-systematic review was the most published study type, mainly from North America, during the period of 1992 to 2002. The most frequent keywords were midazolam and pharmacokinetics. Regarding the authors, Thummel and Kunze were the ones with the greatest number of papers included. Our findings showed the global research trends about midazolam, mainly related to its different effects and uses throughout the time.

Project description:BackgroundAntimicrobial resistance and the dwindling antibiotic development pipeline have resulted in a looming post-antibiotic era. Research related to antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) has grown rapidly in the past decade, especially in the field of surgery. We conducted a bibliometric analysis of these publications. In addition, we aimed to identify research hotspots and infer future research trends.MethodsWe screened global publications on AMS in the surgical field over ten years (between 2011 and 2020) from the Web of Science core collection database. The keywords "antimicrobial or antibiotic", "stewardship", "management", "management strategies", "programme", "surgery" and "surgical" were used to search for related papers. VOS viewer, R software, and other machine learning and visualization tools were used to conduct the bibliometric analysis of the publications.ResultsWe identified 674 publications on AMS in surgical fields; "antimicrobial stewardship" (with total link strength of 1,096) was the most frequent keyword, and had strong links to "antimicrobial resistance" and "guidelines". The top 100 most cited papers had a mean citation count of 47.21 (range: 17-1155) citations, which were cited by survey research studies, clinical trials, and observational studies. The highest-ranking and most cited journal was Clinical Infectious Diseases with eight publications. Jason G. Newland from Washington University wrote seven papers and was cited 1,282 times. The University of Washington published 17 papers and was cited 1,258 times, with the largest number of publications by author and organization. The USA published 198 papers and cooperated with 21 countries, mainly partnering with Italy, the UK, and Canada. Published articles mainly focused on the current clinical situation regarding surgical AMS management, antibiotic prescription, and antibiotic resistance.ConclusionsPublications on surgical AMS management have increased in recent decades, with the USA being the most prolific. Epidemiological investigations of surgical-related infections, antibiotic prescriptions, and antibiotic resistance are fast-developing research trends. However, further improvements are still needed according to the recommendations gained from the bibliometric analysis.

Project description:PurposeAs an autoimmune disease, Vogt‒Koyanagi‒Harada disease (VKHD) is a main type of uveitis in many countries and regions, significantly impacting patient vision. At present, information regarding VKHD is still limited, and further research is needed. We conducted a bibliometric analysis to characterize the overall status, current trends, and current focus of VKHD research.MethodLiterature published from 1975 to 2022 was obtained from the Web of Science core collection and analysed with the R-language packages Bibliometrix, VOSviewer, and CiteSpace software.ResultsA total of 1050 papers on VKHD were retrieved from 261 journals, and 16,084 references were obtained from the papers in the original search. The average annual number of published articles was approximately 21.9, and the number of publications rapidly increased after 2004. The journal Ocular Immunology and Inflammation published the most papers on VKHD, while the American Journal of Ophthalmology has the highest citation frequency. The leading countries were Japan, China (PRC), and the United States of America (USA). Yang PZ from Chongqing Medical University was the most prolific and cited author. The most frequently cited study discussed revision of VKHD diagnostic criteria. An analysis of the highest frequency keywords showed that most research focused on the treatment, diagnosis, and pathogenesis of VKHD and its relationship with other related diseases. At present, the most urgent research direction is in the relationship between COVID-19 or COVID-19 vaccines and VKHD and the corresponding mechanisms underlying it.ConclusionUtilizing dynamic and visualization tools, bibliometrics provides a clear depiction of the research history, development trends, and research hotspots in VKHD It serves as a valuable tool for identifying research gaps and areas that necessitate further exploration. Our study revealed potential directions for future VKHD research, including investigating specific molecular mechanisms underlying the disease, exploring the clinical utility of optical coherence tomography angiography and other diagnostic techniques, and conducting clinical research on novel therapeutic drugs.

Project description:BackgroundCannabis refers to a plant in the family Cannabaceae, which has been used medically, recreationally, and industrially. The last two decades, in particular, have seen a large increase in the volume of literature on this topic. The present bibliometric analysis aims to capture the characteristics of scholarly journal publications on the topic of cannabis and cannabinoid research.MethodsSearches were run on the Scopus database on April 02, 2021, as follows "(TITLE (cannabi* OR hashish OR marijuana OR marihuana)) AND ( LIMIT-TO ( DOCTYPE,"ar" ) OR LIMIT-TO ( DOCTYPE,"re" ) )". Results were exported on the same day to prevent discrepancies between daily database updates. Only "article" and "review" publication types were included; no further search limits were applied. The "article" publication type includes publications featuring original research, whereas "review" includes reviews and conference papers. The following data were collected: number of publications (in total and per year), authors, and journals; open access status; publications per journal; journals publishing the highest volume of literature and their impact factors, language of publication; document type; publication country; author affiliations; funding sponsors; most highly cited publications; and most highly published authors. Trends in this subset of publications were identified and presented. Bibliometric networks were constructed using the software tool VOSviewer.ResultsA total of 29 802 publications (10 214 open access), published by 65 109 authors, were published in 5474 journals from 1829 to 2021. The greatest number of publications was published over the last 20 years. The journal that published the largest number of publications was Drug and Alcohol Dependence (n = 705). The most productive countries included the USA (n = 12 420), the UK (n = 2236), and Canada (n = 2062); many of the most common institutional affiliations and funding sponsors originated from these countries.ConclusionsThe number of publications published on the topic of cannabis follows an upward trend. Over the past 20 years, the volume of cannabis research has grown steeply, which can be attributed to a large amount of funding dedicated to researching this topic. Future research should continue to investigate changes in the publication characteristics of emerging research, as the volume of publications on this topic is expected to rapidly grow.
