Subviral agents are nucleic acids which lack the features for classification as a virus. Tombusvirus-like associated RNAs (tlaRNAs) are subviral positive-sense, single-stranded RNAs that replicate autonomously, yet depend on a coinfecting virus for encapsidation and transmission.
