The complete mitochondrial genome of striped large-eye bream, Gnathodentex aureolineatus (Teleostei, Lethrinidae).

ABSTRACT: Striped large-eye bream, Gnathodentex aureolineatus (Lacepède, 1802), is of high economic value and has important ecological functions in coral reefs. However, the genetic information of this species is quite limited, and there is taxonomical difficulty in the family Lethrinidae. Here, we present the complete mitochondrial genome of G. aureolineatus obtained with a long PCR approach and Sanger sequencing. The mitogenome was 16,940 bp in length, consisting of 37 genes (13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, and 22 transfer RNA genes) and two non-coding regions. Both maximum-likelihood and Bayesian inference phylogenetic trees placed the genus Gnathodentex sister to Monotaxis within Lethrinidae. These results contribute toward the taxonomy, conservation, and phylogeny of Lethrinidae.

The complete genome is 16,576 bp in length with an A + T content of 54.9%, which contains 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, and 2 rRNA genes. The phylogenetic analysis indicated that S. davidi is closely related to Schizothorax lissolabiatus. These results contribute to explore the adaptation strategy of S. davidi on the conditions of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

Complete mitochondrial genome of larged-eye pygmy goby Trimma macrophthalmus (Teleostei, Gobiidae) and its phylogenetic implications.

Project description:Trimma macrophthalmus is a colorful pygmy goby that is widely associated with coral and distributed in the Indo-Pacific Ocean. Here, the complete mitochondrial genome of T. macrophthalmus was first sequenced and annotated. The entire mitogenome is a typical circular molecule (16,943 bp in total length) containing 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, and 1 control region (CR). The overall base composition is 29.6% for A, 15.6% for G, 27.9% for C and 26.9% for T. Phylogenetic tree was reconstructed using concatenated 13 protein coding genes sequences of the 38 related taxa. The phylogenetic analysis indicated that T. macrophthalmus was most closely related to T. okinawae. These findings will contribute for further genetic studies such as evolution, DNA barcoding and molecular phylogeny of genus Trimma and related gobiid fishes.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Liobagrus styani (Teleostei: Amblycipitidae).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of Liobagrus styani was sequenced by the long and accurate polymerase chain reaction and primer walking sequence method, and each partition was characterized. This genome, with 16,515 bp in length, includes 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2rRNA genes, and 2 non-coding regions. Genes encoding on the genome are similar among all vertebrates. These genes except ND6 and 8 tRNA genes were encoded on the H-strand. Phylogenetic relationship of this species with other congeners was inferred using Bayesian Inference methods based on the genome. Result is contrast to traditional biogeographic explanation for faunal similarity and highlight the need for a further investigation on the formation of allopatric distribution pattern of the genus Liobagrus in East Asia.

Phylogenetic tree construction indicated that Evynnis tumifrons was most closely related to Parargyrops edita and Pagrus auriga. This molecular information will contribute to better understand its evolution and population genetics.

Project description:Here, we reported the complete mitochondrial genome of Cyclocheilichthys enoplos, which is widely distributed in Southeast Asia. The genome was 16,579 bp in length, containing 2 ribosomal RNA genes, 22 tRNA genes, a non-coding control region (D-loop), and 13 protein-coding genes. The overall base composition of C. enoplos was 33.1% for A, 24.5% for T, 14.9% for G, and 27.5% for C. Phylogenetic analysis showed that all Cyclocheilichthys species clustered together formed a monophyletic group. The complete mitogenome data of C. enoplos would provide a basis for further systematic studies of the genus Cyclocheilichthys.

Project description:Complete mitochondrial genomes of the characiform fishes Astyanax fasciatus, Astyanax altiparanae, Hoplias malabaricus (Karyomorph A) and the Gymnotiformes species Gymnotus sylvius and Gymnotus cuia were characterized in the present study. The whole mitogenomes varied from 16,400bp (A. fasciatus) to 17,730 bp (A. altiparanae) long and all of them consisted of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNAs, 2 rRNAs genes, a control region, and origin of light-strand replication. The gene order was similar among all the analyzed species. The nucleotide content of all mitogenomes was also similar, with 29.58-30.95% for A, 27.02-28.65% for T, 26.29-29.99% for C, and 14.41-15.67% for G.

In this study, we firstly reported the complete mitochondrial genome of P. myzostoma, which was 16,584 bp in length, containing 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNAs (tRNAs), 2 ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs), and a non-coding control region (D-loop). The overall base composition of P. myzostoma was 30.7% for A, 24.2% for T, 16.0% for G, and 29.1% for C. Phylogenetic analysis showed that all Sisoridae species clustered together formed a monophyletic group. This work would provide a set of useful data on further molecular evolution studies of this precious species.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Yihe bream, Megalobrama amblycephala Yih.

Project description:The evolutionary status and phylogenetic relationships of Megalobrama species remain unclear, despite the efforts. The genetic information of Yihe bream, a new member in Megalobrama, is quite limited. The complete mitochondrial genome of Yihe bream was urgent to reveal the genetic relationships and evolutionary status. In this study, we sequenced the mitochondrial genome of Yihe bream. The genome is 16,624bp in length and structurally identical to the other Megalobrama species. The phylogenetic tree showed that Yihe bream clustered with blunt snout bream, indicated the closer genetic relationships between these two species. The genome of Yihe bream would be useful for the future researches of population genetics, evolution and DNA barcoding of Megalobrama species.
