Lanthipeptides are ribosomally synthesized and post-translationally modified peptide natural products characterized by the presence of lanthionine and methyllanthionine cross-linked amino acids formed by dehydration of Ser/Thr residues followed by conjugate addition of Cys to the resulting dehydroamino acids.
