Development and status of moral education research: Visual analysis based on knowledge graph.

ABSTRACT:

Introduction

Moral education is an educational process of the continuation, construction, and transformation of moral and social norms, and is an important guarantee for the sustainable vitality of human morality.

Methods

With bibliometrics applied and VOSviewer and CiteSpace as tools, this paper systematically analyzes 497 articles published in the Social Sciences Citation Index of Web of Science core collection from 2000 to 2022 in the field of moral education research.

Results

By quantifying specific performance information in the field of moral education in terms of authors, journals, organizations and countries, this paper identifies the highly productive authors and organizations, as well as core journals (i.e., the Journal of Moral Education). A cluster analysis is used to show the knowledge structure, and an evolutionary analysis to present the macro-development trend of moral education.

Discussion

In this paper, the comprehensive description of the research topics on moral education clarifies the development model and disciplinary prospect of the moral education research, and provides theoretical and practical support for the continuous development and application practice of the moral education research.

Project description:BackgroundThis study aims to identify the characteristics and future directions of online medical education in the context of the novel coronavirus outbreak new through visual analytics using CiteSpace and VOSviewer bibliometric methods.MethodFrom Web of Science, we searched for articles published between 2020 and 2022 using the terms online education, medical education and COVID-19, ended up with 2555 eligible papers, and the articles published between 2010 and 2019 using the terms online education, medical education and COVID-19, and we ended up with 4313 eligible papers.ResultsBefore the COVID-19 outbreak, Medical students and care were the most frequent keywords and the most cited author was BRENT THOMA with 18 times. The United States is the country with the greatest involvement and research impact in the field of online medical education. The most cited journal is ACAD MED with 1326 citations. After the COVID-19 outbreak, a surge in the number of research results in related fields, and ANXIETY and four secondary keywords were identified. In addition, the concentration of authors of these publications in the USA and China is a strong indication that local epidemics and communication technologies have influenced the development of online medical education research. Regarding the centrality of research institutions, the most influential co-author network is Harvard Medical School in the United States; and regarding the centrality of references, the most representative journal to which it belongs is VACCINE.ConclusionThis study found that hey information such as keywords, major institutions and authors, and countries differ in the papers before and after the COVID-19 outbreak. The novel coronavirus outbreak had a significant impact on the online education aspect. For non-medical and medical students, the pandemic has led to home isolation, making it difficult to offer face-to-face classes such as laboratory operations. Students have lost urgency and control over the specifics of face-to-face instruction, which has reduced the quality of teaching. Therefore, we should improve our education model according to the actual situation to ensure the quality of teaching while taking into account the physical and psychological health of students.

Project description:BackgroundDigital knowledge sharing (DKS) communities have emerged as a promising approach to support learning and innovation in online higher education. These communities facilitate the exchange of knowledge, resources, and ideas among educators, students, and experts, creating opportunities for collaboration, innovation, and lifelong learning. However, the impact and role of DKS communities in online education are not well understood, and further research is needed to explore their potential benefits and challenges.PurposeThis multi-objective qualitative study aims to investigate the impact and role of DKS communities in online higher education, identifying the factors that promote student success and the implications for the development of online education. The study collected data from 20 informants who have experienced teaching online during and after the pandemic. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. The informants were selected through theoretical sampling.MethodologyTo explore the impact and role of DKS communities in online higher education, this study employed a multi-objective qualitative research method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews conducted with 20 informants who possessed experience in teaching online during and after the pandemic. The informants were selected through theoretical sampling to ensure diverse perspectives and insights. The collected data were subsequently analyzed using thematic analysis, allowing for the identification of key themes and patterns.FindingsThe findings of this study provide valuable insights into the impact and role of DKS communities in online higher education. These insights encompass various aspects, including the benefits and challenges of DKS in online education, the factors that contribute to student success, and the implications for the ongoing development and innovation of online education.ConclusionsIn conclusion, this multi-objective qualitative study sheds light on the significance of DKS communities in online higher education. Project description:BackgroundLimited knowledge and unclear underlying biology of many rare diseases pose significant challenges to patients, clinicians, and scientists. To address these challenges, there is an urgent need to inspire and encourage scientists to propose and pursue innovative research studies that aim to uncover the genetic and molecular causes of more rare diseases and ultimately to identify effective therapeutic solutions. A clear understanding of current research efforts, knowledge/research gaps, and funding patterns as scientific evidence is crucial to systematically accelerate the pace of research discovery in rare diseases, which is an overarching goal of this study.MethodsTo semantically represent NIH funding data for rare diseases and advance its use of effectively promoting rare disease research, we identified NIH funded projects for rare diseases by mapping GARD diseases to the project based on project titles; subsequently we presented and managed those identified projects in a knowledge graph using Neo4j software, hosted at NCATS, based on a pre-defined data model that captures semantics among the data. With this developed knowledge graph, we were able to perform several case studies to demonstrate scientific evidence generation for supporting rare disease research discovery.ResultsOf 5001 rare diseases belonging to 32 distinct disease categories, we identified 1294 diseases that are mapped to 45,647 distinct, NIH-funded projects obtained from the NIH ExPORTER by implementing semantic annotation of project titles. To capture semantic relationships presenting amongst mapped research funding data, we defined a data model comprised of seven primary classes and corresponding object and data properties. A Neo4j knowledge graph based on this predefined data model has been developed, and we performed multiple case studies over this knowledge graph to demonstrate its use in directing and promoting rare disease research.ConclusionWe developed an integrative knowledge graph with rare disease funding data and demonstrated its use as a source from where we can effectively identify and generate scientific evidence to support rare disease research. With the success of this preliminary study, we plan to implement advanced computational approaches for analyzing more funding related data, e.g., project abstracts and PubMed article abstracts, and linking to other types of biomedical data to perform more sophisticated research gap analysis and identify opportunities for future research in rare diseases.
