Project description:ObjectiveThis study aimed to analyze the current state of research on preoperative anxiety in children through CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and the identification of hot spots and frontiers.MethodRelevant data were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection using the search terms children and preoperative anxiety. Data were analyzed using VOSviewer (version 1.6.18), CiteSpace (5.7. R5) software, and Scimago Graphica.ResultsA total of 622 articles were published between 2007 and 2022, with an increasing trend over time. Kain, Zeev N. (13; 2.09%) and Dalhousie University (15; 2.41%) were the most influential authors and most prolific institutions, respectively. The United States (121; 19.45%) was the country with the most publications. Pediatric anesthesia (55; 8.84%) had the most publications. High-frequency keywords were categorized into three themes, including nonpharmacologic interventions for preoperative anxiety in children, preoperative medications, and risk factors for anxiety; of these, "predictor" (38; 2016) and "sedative premedication" (20; 2016) were the most studied keywords over the past 6 years. "Distraction" (67; 2019) and "dexmedetomidine" (65; 2019) have been the main areas of interest in recent years.ConclusionResearch on preoperative anxiety in children has been the focus of increasing attention over the past fifteen years, with the majority of publications from high-income countries. This review provides a useful perspective for understanding research trends, hot topics, and research gaps in this expanding field.

Project description:Background Patellar instability is a common multifactorial disease in orthopedics, which seriously affects the quality of life. Because of the unified pathogeny, diagnosis and treatment, patellar instability has gradually attracted the interest of more scholars these years, resulting in an explosive growth in the research output. This study aims to summarize the knowledge structure and development trend in the field from the perspective of bibliometrics. Methods The data of articles and reviews on patellar instability was extracted from the Web of Science database. The Microsoft Excel, R-bibliometrix, CiteSpace, VOSviewer, Pajek software are comprehensively used to scientifically analyze the data quantitatively and qualitatively. Results Totally, 2,155 papers were identified, mainly from North America, Western Europe and East Asia. Until December 31, 2021, the United States has contributed the most articles (1,828) and the highest total citations (17,931). Hospital for Special Surgery and professor Andrew A Amis are the most prolific institutions and the most influential authors respectively. Through the analysis of citations and keywords based on a large number of literatures, “medial patellofemoral ligament construction”, “tibial tubercle-trochlear groove (TT-TG) distance”, “epidemiological prevalence”, “multifactor analysis of etiology, clinical outcome and radiographic landmarks “ were identified to be the most promising research directions. Conclusions This is the first bibliometric study to comprehensively summarize the research trend and development of patellar instability. The result of our research provides the updated perspective for scholars to understand the key information in this field, and promote future research to a great extent.

Project description:Gallbladder cancer (GBC) is one of the lethal cancers with an extremely poor prognosis. In the recent 20 years, research on GBC has developed rapidly. Here we aim to perform a systematical bibliometric analysis on the current foci and status of GBC research. This study analyzes trends in GBC research and compares contributions from different countries and regions, institutions, and authors. All publications in GBC research from 2001 to 2021 in the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database were collected. Microsoft Excel 2010 and GraphPad Prism 9 were used to analyze publication data and publication trends. VOSviewer 1.6.17 was adapted to generate a visual network of keywords in surgical training research. A total of 3,323 publications were included. China was the most productive country, with the highest number of publications (n = 900, 27.08%). Shanghai Jiaotong University and Roa JC were the most productive institution and authors, contributing 215 and 89 publications, respectively. Keywords were classified into five clusters, each representing a key topic. The main clusters of GBC are related to surgery therapy, mechanism research-related study, and non-surgery therapy, while migration is the current hotspot of GBC research. The scientific progression of GBC research over the past two decades was comprehensively analyzed by this bibliometric study. Finding deeper mechanisms in the migration of GBC cells, new biomarkers, and highly effective nomograms will be the major problems and directions in the future.

Project description:BackgroundMultiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome (MODS) is a major cause of high morbidity and mortality among patients in intensive care units (ICU). Although numerous basic and clinical researches on MODS have been conducted, there is still a long way to go to prevent patients from entering this stage. To our knowledge, no bibliometric analyses of MODS have been reported, this study, therefore, was conducted to reveal MODS research status and trends during 2001-2021.MethodsAll relevant literature covering MODS during 2001-2021 were extracted from Web of Science. An online analysis platform of literature metrology was used to analyze the publication trends. VOSviewer software was used to collect and analyze the keywords and research hotspots related to MODS.ResultsAs of July 31, 2021, a total of 994 MODS-related articles from 2001 to 2021 were identified. The United States accounted for the largest number of publications (31.1%), followed by China and Germany, with 186 and 75 publications, respectively. Among all the institutions, the University of Pittsburgh published the most papers related to MODS (21). Critical Care Medicine published the most papers in this field (106). Professor Moore EE, who had the most citation frequency (1847), made great achievements in MODS research. Moreover, analysis of the keywords identified three MODS research hotspot clusters: "mechanism-related research," "clinical research," and "diagnostic research."ConclusionsThe United States maintained a top position worldwide and made the most outstanding contribution in the MODS field. In terms of publication, China was next only to the United States, but there was a disproportion between the quantity of publications and citation frequency. The institution University of Pittsburgh and journal Critical Care Medicine represent the highest level of research in this field. During the 20 years from 2001 to 2021, basic MODS research has been in-depth yet progressed relatively slowly recently, but the outbreak of COVID-19 has to some extent set off an upsurge of clinical research in MODS field.

Project description:BackgroundThe incidence and prevalence of gout have been steadily increasing globally, which has resulted in gout research attracting consistently increased attention. This study aimed to visualize the knowledge structure and research trends in gout research through bibliometrics to help understand the future development of basic and clinical research.MethodsArticles and reviews on gout from 2001 to 2021 were extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection database. CiteSpace and VOSviewer software were used to visualize the knowledge network of countries, institutions, authors, references, and keywords in this field. SPSS and Microsoft Excel software were used for curve fitting and correlation analysis.ResultsA total of 3,259 articles and reviews were included. The number of publications about gout significantly increased yearly. Publications were mainly concentrated in North America, Europe, Oceania, and East Asia. The USA contributed most with 1,025 publications, followed by China and New Zealand. After adjusting for publications by population size and Gross Domestic Product (GDP), New Zealand ranked in the first place. GDP and international collaboration were significantly correlated with scientific productivity for gout research. University of Auckland and Professor Dalbeth Nicola were the most prolific institutions and influential authors, respectively. Rheumatology was the most productive journal for gout research. Gout research hotspots have shifted over time in the following order: clinical features, pathological mechanisms, complications, gouty arthritis, epidemiology, and dual-energy computed tomography to drug clinical trials, which can be observed from the keyword analysis and co-cited reference cluster analysis.ConclusionsThis study found that research on gout is flourishing. The development and experimentation of drugs for the prevention and treatment of gouty arthritis would be the focus of current research and developmental trends in future research.

Project description:Background: Necroptosis plays an important role in inflammation, cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases. In recent years, the number of studies related to necroptosis has increased and research has become increasingly in-depth. This study aimed to summarize the research conducted since 2001 to discover hotspots and trends in the field of necroptosis. Methods: The Web of Science Core database was used to identify global publications on necroptosis from 2001 to 2021. Bibliometric analysis was performed using Rstudio, VOSviewer, and CiteSpace. Results: The number of publications related to necroptosis gradually increased from 2001 to 2021. Vandenabeele P had the most publications at 45. Yuan JY had the most citations at 5,901. Necroptosis research has been dominated by China and Chinese institutions. Cell Death and Disease had the highest number of related publications among the examined journals. Seven of the top 10 most cited papers had more than 500 citations. Necroptosis, cell death, autophagy, injury, cancer, activated B cell nuclear factor kappa-light chain enhancer, and oxidative stress were important keywords in keyword analysis. Recent research has increasingly focused on breast cancer, receptor-interacting serine/threonine protein kinase 1, modulation, pseudokinase mixed lineage kinase domain-like protein, membrane, protection, and cycle. Conclusion: Interest in necroptosis-related research continues to increase steadily, and there is close cooperation between countries and institutions in the field of necroptosis. The study of necroptosis-related molecules and mechanisms, and the relationship between necroptosis and cancer, may be hotspots and directions in future research.

Project description:Study objectivesTo evaluate sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE) research and to quantitatively and qualitatively predict research hot spots using bibliometric analysis.MethodsWe extracted relevant publications from the Web of Science Core Collection on July 28, 2021. We investigated the retrieved data by bibliometric analysis (e.g. co-cited and cluster analysis, keyword co-occurrence) using the software CiteSpace and VOSviewer, the Online Analysis Platform of Literature Metrology (http://bibliometric.com/) and Bibliometrix to analyse and predict the trends and hot spots in this field.Main resultsWe identified 1,582 published articles and reviews on SAE from 2001 to 2021. During this period, the number of manuscripts on SAE increased steadily and peaked in 2021. The USA and China were the leading countries that had a critical impact on SAE research. Among all institutions, Vanderbilt University and Pittsburgh University held leading positions and became central in the collaboration network. Among all the journals, Critical Care Medicine published the maximum number of manuscripts in the field of SAE within 20 years. Dal-Pizzol Felipe was the most productive author (61 papers) and received the largest number of citations (930 citations). Co-citation cluster analysis revealed that the most popular terms on SAE in the manner of cluster labels were critical illness, sepsis-associated encephalopathy, polymicrobial sepsis, posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome, rat brain, intensive care unit, prior sepsis, molecular hydrogen, inflammation drive, metabolic encephalopathies, delirium pathophysiology, and clinical neuroscience. Keyword burst detection indicated that neuroinflammation, blood-brain barrier (BBB) and mitochondria dysfunction were the current research hot spots.ConclusionsOur study revealed that neuroinflammation, blood-brain barrier, and mitochondria dysfunction had been the research foci of SAE over the past 20 years. These have emerged as the basis for transformation from basic research to clinical application in finding effective methods for the prevention and treatment of SAE.

Project description:Pathological scar is a classic problem in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Although the researches on pathological scar have been conducted for decades, the way to go to address this thorny problem still remains challenging. To the best of our knowledge, few bibliometric analysis concerning pathological scar have been reported. In this study, we set out to employ bibliometric and visual analysis to offer research status and trends of pathological scar over the period 2001-2021. All publications covering pathological scar during 2001-2021 were retrieved and extracted from the Web of Science database. We applied VOSviewer software to evaluate the keywords and research hotpots, and the online tool (http://bibliometric.com/) was used to carried out the publication trends analysis. A total of 2221 pathological scar-related articles were identified over the period 2001-2021. China is the country which had the largest volume of publications (819, 36.87%), followed by the United States (416, 18.73%), Japan (144, 6.48%), Korea (142, 6.39%), and England (118, 5.31%). Among the institutions and journals, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (167) and Wound Repair and Regeneration (85) accounted for the most papers related to pathological scar, respectively. Professor Bayat A, who had the most citation frequency (2303), made great contribution in pathological scar field. "Fibroblast", "expression", and "proliferation" were identified as the pathological scar research hotspot through analysis of the keywords. In terms of publication, China ranked first all over the world, but the numbers of publication are inconsistent with the citation frequency, ranking first and second, respectively. Shanghai Jiao Tong University and journal Wound Repair and Regeneration stand for the highest level of research in this field to a certain extent. In the early stage, the research focus was mainly on the prevention, treatment, and risk factors for recurrence of pathological scar from cases. In the later stage, the research focus was on the comprehensive management, in which the mechanism research was in-depth to the molecular and gene level.

Project description:BackgroundBirt-Hogg-Dubé syndrome (BHD) is a rare autosomal dominant inherited disorder caused by germline mutations in folliculin (FLCN). Despite our significantly evolved understanding of BHD over the past decades, no bibliometric analyses have been conducted in this field. This study aimed to analyze and visualize the characteristics of publication outputs, the research hotspots, and scientific frontiers about BHD using bibliometric analysis.MethodsAll relevant literature on BHD was culled from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database. Valid data were extracted from the articles and visually analyzed using CiteSpace and VOSviewer.ResultsA total of 751 qualifying papers were included. Publication outputs concerning BHD increased over time. The dominant position of the United States and Japan in BHD research field was evident. National Cancer Institute (the USA) and Yokohama City University (Japan) were the two most productive organizations. W. Marston Linehan exerted a considerable publication impact and had made the most remarkable contributions in the field of BHD. Plos One was the journal with the highest publication outputs, and half of the top 10 journals and co-cited journals belonged to Q1 or Q2. Keyword citation bursts revealed that management, tumor suppressor, flcn gene, spectrum, diagnosis, risk, computed tomography were the emerging research hotspots.ConclusionResearch on BHD is prosperous. International cooperation between countries and organizations is also expected to deepen and strengthen in the future. Our results indicated that FLCN-associated pathways involved in the pathogenesis of BHD, specific options for early diagnosis, and molecular-targeting therapies will remain research hotspots in the future.

Project description:Background and Aims: To evaluate endoscopic sedation research and predict research hot spots both quantitatively and qualitatively using bibliometric analysis. Methods: We extracted relevant publications from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) on 13 December 2020. We examined the retrieved data by bibliometric analysis (e.g., co-cited and cluster analysis, keyword co-occurrence) using the software CiteSpace and VOSviewer and the website of bibliometrics, the Online Analysis Platform of Literature Metrology (http://bibliometric.com/), to analyse and predict the trends and hot spots in this field. Main Results: We identified 2,879 articles and reviews on endoscopic sedation published between 2001 and 2020. Although the overall trend is increasing, with slight fluctuation in some years, there were significant increases in 2007 and 2012. In respect of the contributions on endoscopic sedation research, the United States (US) had the greatest number of publications, and it was followed by Japan and China. In addition, collaboration network analysis revealed that the most frequent collaboration was between the US and China. Six of the top ten most prolific research institutions were located in the US. The most publications on endoscopic sedation research in the past two decades were found primarily in journals on gastroenterology and hepatology. Keyword co-occurrence and co-citation cluster analysis revealed the most popular terms relating to endoscopic sedation in the manner of cluster labels; these included patient anxiety, tolerance, ketamine, propofol, hypoxia, nursing shortage, endoscopic ultrasonography, colorectal cancer, carbon dioxide insufflation, and water exchange (WE). Keyword burst detection suggested that propofol sedation, adverse event, adenoma detection rate (ADR), hypoxemia, and obesity were newly-emergent research hot spots. Conclusions: Our findings showed that hypoxia, adverse event, and ADR, along with conscious sedation and propofol sedation, have been foci of endoscopic sedation research over the past 20 years. The research focus has shifted from sedative drugs to sedative complications and endoscopy quality control, which means that there will be higher requirements and standards for sedative quality and endoscopy quality in the future.
